Re: BMW F5 Progressive Activity Sedan - spy pics & info

EnI, any chance of a X7? Like an extremely luxurious SAV or something similar?

Re: BMW F5 Progressive Activity Sedan - spy pics & info

No X7 . The X5 is space sufficient enough anything else will be too big.
Alternative to the X7 would be the F5 Progressive Activity Sedan.
X7 does not have the right image when you have something as stand out as the BMW X6.

Re: BMW F5 Progressive Activity Sedan - spy pics & info

No! too large ;)

Not at all. If they like to drive cars like X5, X6, GL, RangeRover, Q7 etc I'm sure they will cope with F5 just fine. :D

F for functionality, F for feminine, F for family. :usa7uh:

Re: BMW F5 Progressive Activity Sedan - spy pics & info

I guess this will be BMW's version of a banana on wheels.

Lol, something like that, yeah...:D

Re: BMW F5 Progressive Activity Sedan - spy pics & info

After seeing the latest F10 5er spy shots this looks BOOOORING... :sleep1zh:

Re: BMW F5 Progressive Activity Sedan - spy pics & info

Will this be priced above the 5er Touring? Also, it might've been mentioned already but I assume it is between a 5er and 7er in terms of size?

BMW Progressive Activity Sedan to debut at 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show
http://www.motorauthority.com/news/crossovers/preview-2010-bmw-progressive-activity-sedan-pas-2/
Last year BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer revealed plans for several all-new models including a design study dubbed the Progressive Activity Sedan (PAS). Beyond an obscure design brief for the new concept details have been relatively scarce, but the wait will soon be over - the car is set to make its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September next year.

Spy shots of the car taken over the past year have shown the car will pick up many of the lines from the X6, and it’s expected to be available in both RWD and AWD configurations. Like the X6, the new PAS will only be a four-seater with individual bucket seats featuring full heating and massage functions. And despite the Progressive Activity Sedan name, the car appears to be more of an estate or hatchback, with a split-gate rear portal instead of a rear deck and boot-lid design. These new renderings preview the final car’s expected appearance.
BMW will once again be stressing the car’s coupe-like characteristics just as it did with the X6. Expect to see extremely short overhangs, flared fenders and optional 21in wheels. The wheelbase will stretch just over 3m with an overall length of at least 4.90m, making the new PAS slightly larger than the X6, which is appropriate for the car’s position in the overall lineup, expected to fall between the existing 5- and 7-series cars.
The car will initially be available with four different engines as well as the latest EfficientDynamics technology including the possibility of a hybrid option. The engine range will kick off with a 245hp 3.0L turbodiesel, followed by a pair of 300hp 3.0L twin-turbo six cylinder engines, one diesel and the other petrol. The range topper will be a new 408hp 4.0L diesel V8 with an available 600Nm of torque.
During an interview last year, BMW exec Klaus Draeger said a second PAS could be built if the first model proves successful. Draeger also confirmed the name of the new range would start with the letter ‘V’ in the same way that the letter ‘Z’ is reserved for sports models and ‘X’ for the SUV range.

Re: BMW F5 Progressive Activity Sedan - spy pics & info

So let's try and get this cleared. The F5 PAS will have:

- A front similar in size and shape/proportions to a normal 5er.
- A rear end very similar to the X6 (ala, dramatically swooping rear window as opposed to a normal wagon/estate rear).
- A ride height similar to a normal 5er.

So in simple, it's just a 5er wagon with an X6 rear ?

Also, how similar is the overall shape and rear-end of that MotorAuthority CGI?..because if it's close to the mark, then the F5 will be an absolute stunner!

Some new CGI's?:

BMW Progressive Activity Sedan to debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show?[/SIZE]

Recent spy shots prove BMW’s Progressive Activity Sedan program is well under way and, if a new report is accurate, we should see the final results in just over a year. A new report indicates that BMW is planning to take the wraps off the PAS at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.

According to Auto Motor und Sport, BMW has September of 2009 circled for the Progressive Activity Sedan’s world debut. Sales should follow shortly after, with the sedan rolling into BMW dealerships in either late 2009 or early 2010.

As seen in our spy photos, the car appears to be a pure hatchback with no room for a rear deck-lid — as our renderings show. Overall styling appears to be similar to the X6, but the vehicle spied has a taller roofline arc — allowing for more headroom in back — and the rear hatch looks more cargo-friendly.

The new sedan should also be slightly longer than the X6.

Earlier reports said BMW’s next MPV would go head-to-head with Mercedes‘ R-class, but BMW instead decided to build a sedan-like crossover. This is probably a good decision for BMW as it better suits the automaker’s values and the R-class has been met with a lukewarm reception at best.

As you can see from the illustrations, the PAS won’t fit into one specific segment. The body is more sedan than wagon, but will offer more cargo room than a typical sedan. The PAS will also ride slightly higher ride, giving the car the look of a CUV. Overall, the PAS should combined all the best features from a wagon, CUV and sedan.

^^ CGIs are old from January.

Re: BMW F5 Progressive Activity Sedan - spy pics & info

The PAS is BMW's answer to the Mercedes CLS and Audi A7. They don't need a sedan-coupe in this segment because they have the 6er, a real coupe.

Eni, is there an internal product code for this car already? F12 or something?

Not at all. If they like to drive cars like X5, X6, GL, RangeRover, Q7 etc I'm sure they will cope with F5 just fine. :D

Uhm......what's this then Eni.....

And that 'F for feminine' is crazy. This car will be anything but feminine.

PAS is not an answer to CLS! C'mon. :eusa_doh:

X6 is. Kind a. Although BMW paired SAV with coupe, instead a sedan with coupe (CLS) or eg. hatchback with coupe (A5 Sportsback, A7 Sportsback).

PAS is a spacious large sporty hatchback. While PAC (Progressive Activity Coupe) based on "small platform" (3er etc) will be something similar to A5 Sportsback.

Analog to CLS & A7 BMW will offer "the new 8er" (Project GT - based on CS concept) - but the car will be positioned one segment higher. Kind a in Bentley Continental area.
Eg. Panamera will compete with high-end CLS & A7 models, while Rapide will be even in higher segment than the 8er. Somewhere the upcoming Silver Ghost (RR04 "baby RR") based coupe will be positioned.

I've heard 2 different codes: E99 & F05. :t-hands:

We have debate this already: it's a wrong translation from German. Herr Draeger actually said PAS vehicle WOULD NOT be labeled "V".

BMW wanted to label PAS as F-family. They tried to registrate trademarks like F3, F5 etc. but the registration was denied in US by USPTO.

So, it's possible BMW will come out with a label "Y" in the end (already registered Y3, Y5, Y6, etc trademarks in Germany).
The other idea is to use "K" - as BMW already owns the trademarks due motorcycle models, or even use 4er (and 2er) badges if everything else fails.

I don't think that sounds strange at all. PAS is based on F10 5er right?
Why wouldn't it be an answer? Clearly it's not the same type of car, but they are both 'the same yet different' from their regular models, the E-klasse and 5er.
IMO PAS is closer to CLS than X6 is to CLS. PAS is also hatchback with coupe from the way I see it.

Absolutely not!

X6 has much more coupeish roof line than PAS - which is also evident in the cabin: PAS having much more head room than SAC.
PAS has all the sedan's comfort & ride dynamics, even more space inside & more practical boot (than sedan).

I've described a difference between SAV, SAC, PAS, station wagon, & sedan in some post here in the past. Find it ...
