Im saying the car in the pic might not be the turbo version. Sure one will exist, but the one in the photo doesnt seem it.

Follow me:

335i will feature N54 bi-turbo engine + the car on the pic is labeled 335i and has twin pipes -> the car with twin pipes = the car with N54 bi-turbo engine.

Get it? :D

You could be correct but remember, the E46 M3 was an inline6. The characteristics are quit different here because your working with fewer cylinders. A hi-powered 6 requires more hp per displacement than a V8 or V10
so I would even bother comparing the 6 with the upcoming V8 M3.;)

True. That's why I expect new V8 M3 to have cca 105HP/L -> 4.0L cca 420HP.

the car looks bigger , and meaner , thank god the front / rear lights dont look like the e90's .

Does it really matter? I mean, at the end of the day it will be an M3? No? ;)

Nope! :eusa_snoo Sorry need to see something that says Turbo or at least a "T" or some representation of it. Two pipes doesn't mean much too me. :D

Besides wasnt there an issue of US not getting Turbo and Europe is? Who knows whats under the hood there? Need too see something more tangible.

BMW decided in the end not label specific techincal engine characheristics on a badge - except "i" for petrol, "d" for diesel, and "h" for hybrid.

You won't see like "vi" for Valvetronic, or "tti" for twin turbo, or "dii" for direct injetion, etc

BMW think engine development progress is constant & dynamic: labeling technical characteristics of engines would lead to confussion. Today an engine has Valvertronic, tomorrow HPI & turbochargers, day after tomorrow - who knows what.

There were debates to badge turbo with "ti"/"td", and direct injection with "ii", and then the combination of both (like seen in N54 engine) as "tii" - but they decided to go more simple way: 335i.

Imagine the 330sxtii - a bit too much, isn't it?

Regarding N54 in US: that debate was artificial and a total nonsense. N54 is coming to US - the problem is HPI (lean direct injection) which needs sulphur free gasoline which is not yet available in US. Therefore BMW have to tweak the engine to fit US fuel - just like Audi did with their FSI engines.

My sentiments this whole time!!!

Well put and thanks for the thorough explanation, makes more sense now... :usa7uh:

Hey Enilab, I have a question for you. I noticed on GCF that the Z4 coupe 3.0 si is getting the n/a N52 3.0 litre, not the N54? Why wouldnt they save the si nomenclature for the turbo and the regular i for the 265 hp version.

thx for the update on the sulphur :usa7uh:

"si" & "sd" is / will be used for "special" / "sporty" versions:

like 320si, 120si, 335si, 335sd, Z4 3.0si, X3 3.5si, X3 3.5sd, X5 5.5si etc

"s" indicates special engine or equipment or features: like e.g. more powerful engine, or ZSG gearbox option, or sport package etc.

It's initial phase of introducing "s" models, so now everything looks confusing: after a while when the "s" lines are established everything will make more sense.

Hey Enilab apply for a BMW position or start writing a book, at least you'll make some money out of all this info.... :D

I dont think building hype is a "stupid" idea. Do you??

when it's gone on for this long..... yes.
WE have made it go on for so long. We are not the typical consumer. The average consumer does not look for spy shots and listen for car gossip. The average consumer is maybe aware that the 3 series coupe is going to be replaced by next year. They don't really care when it debuts, or at least not like we do. Do you realize how many threads we've made for this one car? We have blown this whole car way out of proportion.
