With many of its customers seeking aftermarket means for bulletproofing of their cars, Bentley is now considering offering the option direct from the factory. Many automakers already offer armored cars, including most of the German luxury makes, as well as Jaguar Land Rover, but currently Bentley customers looking for a little protection have to consult with aftermarket firms such as German’s Stoof International or Russia’s ArmorTech.

According to a new report, strong demand for armored cars, particularly in emerging markets such as Latin America, the Middle East and Russia, has got Bentley considering launching its own range of armored cars.

Speaking with The Guardian, Bentley's finance chief Jan-Henrik Lafrentz confirmed that the automaker was investigating the business case of building armored cars, and that such a move would likely help the brand’s expansion into emerging markets.

Bentley wouldn’t have to look far for experts capable of bulletproofing its cars as several fellow Volkswagen Group brands already offer the option. Bentley’s tradition of hand-building cars would also be ideal for armored car construction as most of the necessary modifications are typically made by hand.

Specific elements required for armored car construction include hot-formed armored steel, aramide fabric, ceramics, special alloyed aluminum and multilayer glass.

Didn't Bentley's Mulinner offere armored cars?

I was under the impression too that Bentley have made armored cars in the past. Given a possible rise in demand I don't think V12 engines will die anytime soon. An armored Mulsanne would even make Bentley's most powerful V12 sweat its balls.
