Vs Autoexpress: M3 vs Cayman S vs S5 vs Vauxhall VXR8

Yeah, i just saw that video and i highly recommend it to all...;)

So much about driver involvement....:D

:t-cheers:

Like I said the journalist obviously got spoiled by the Cayman which lets you do what ever you want to it with 100% precision, and without loosing any control. It has disgustingly high limits.

There is no question that the M3 is a very driver orientated car.

When you stack anything up against the Cayman S in a sportcar magazine comparison, its going to look bad, especially cars that compromise hardcore performance for other things.

The comparison results make sense, but throw in an RS5 and something else other than a Vauxhall to make last place not such an obvious pick.

I'd take the Cayman S for the track and the S5 for cruising around town.

Odd comparo. Really non of the other stood a chance against the Porsche. I think the S5 is the best all arounder though.

I know the RS4 has just gone out of production, but can't they still get their hands on one? The S5 isn't really a true competitor for the M3, so I have no idea why the magazine even bothers with it.

I know they love the Vauxhall VXR8, but do they have to put it into the comparison as well? Did they really need a drive to realise "it’s short on talent in this company."

After reading the article, the M3 isn't the understeering beast that the initial test drive reviews were saying, which is good. The car has been let down by its numb steering feel, and the E46 M3 was criticised for the exact same thing as well.

The S5 finally got the credit that it deserves. Now Audi should bring the 480 hp RS5 and kill the competition.

Hopefully in one year from now. Fingers crossed.:D

It would be even better to do the same thing with 420 HP,don´t you think:D ?Power means nothing here, only car itself IMO..Lets rather see what can Audi pull off without pushing power output up to the sky:usa7uh: .

M3 is "unengaging to drive" ???? Are they out of their minds ??? :t-crazy2:

Besides, I think it should be M3 vs 911 rather than Cayman (Z4M coupe is a more suitble competetor for the cayman)

For me it would be :
1. M3
2. S4
3. Cayman S
4. VXR8

Cayman doesn´t fit into perspective of this test..Cayman is car from different story(Z4M and SLK 55 are real challenge to Porsche) and it doesn´t fit into this group IMO.I´m not convinced this is the way do make an fair test..

It loosing against the porsche was not the harsh part

this is the harsh part

. So why doesn’t it win? Simple: it doesn’t make the driver feel a key part of the action
As I read the individual test reports, I get the distinct impression that the lack of driver engagement is limited only to comparing the M3 against the Cayman S. The reports on the other V8-engined 4/5-seaters don't indicate higher levels of feedback, but do indicate lower levels of response to driver inputs than the M3. So, the M3's lack of driver engagment is relative only to the much lighter, mid-engined Cayman. And thus, not really that harsh.
