Autocar : What's fastest? (Video)

I still can´t get enough of 911´s chrushing superiority against almost everything with 4 wheels..Impressive indeed!!!SLS is quite impressive also,GT-R also not bad at all (considering its weight). As for LF-A,I must say I´m dissapointed, very dissapointed..thumbs down for Lexus.

All that shows is how much biased they are against the LFA. It was painful to watch. Somehow when LFA starts reeling the SLS AMG back in, the nose dives down and suddenly falls behind.

If you read the AutoZeitung comparison of the LFA and SLS AMG, both cars were neck and neck uptill 125 mph. Over 140 mph, the LFA was pulling away from the SLS AMG.

This was just ludicrous. It was as shoddy as their comparison with the Ferrari 458 Italia when in fact, SportAuto cited LFA to be faster in the turns and pulling more g than the Ferrari 458 Italia.

Both the SLS and LF-A launched off line equally well and it wasn't until the higher speeds were reached that the Merc started to pull away. I don't know how typical this result is but I disagree that Autocar are bias, far from it.

Let's just say, LFA will have to be a 12 second car in the 1/4 mile to fall that far behind the SLS AMG. When the LFA started pulling back up, suddenly the nose dived and if fell far behind and you see the driver already grimmacing.

You want to read the AutoZeitung comparison. LFA was faster in a straight line and both cars were neck and neck at 125 mph. Even around the race track, LFA covered the high speed sector much quicker.

If you read the AutoCar review in which they compared the LFA vs Ferrari 458, you would see how was wildly contrasting it was compared to SportAuto's impressions around Nurburgring when LFA was pulling 115 km/h@ 1.30g compares to the Ferrari 104 km/h@1.25g on the same corner.

That is shoddy biased journalism at its best and definitely not good press for the LFA.

I don't think the nosedive was necessarily bias. That's precisely the behavior we've seen before of similarly accelerating cars, when one has a (sequential) manual vs the other with a DCT. The SLS is stealing back precious tenths of seconds on each gearshift compared to the LFA. The SLS should be faster off the line with its launch control; the prototype LFA's don't have it, but it's said to be on the production ones.

Autocar have previously commented on how they perform these types of comparos:
"It's also worth knowing how we go about filming these drag races. Although in the finished vid you see one single race, we're a tiny bit more scientific about it. In this case, before we filmed anything both Matt and I had a go at figuring both cars, and without the weight of Andy the camera man [contrary to their official road test procedures]. Then when we were satisfied we'd got the best from both we filmed the race to fit the numbers."

If there's anything to take away from this video, it's that...the British car is the fastest. :D

Thanks. That makes a lot of sense. I remember seeing the race of ZR-1 vs GT2 and the whole time ZR-1 could not catch up to the GT2 even after 1 mile.

That is when I questioned their credibility first.

I read the article briefly today and you are right, the SLS and LF-A were quite close, though the Merc still won the race after a mile.
