Just watched the Evoque on Fifthgear tonight and Landrover have re-wrote the small SUV book with this car, the way it handled the off-road and the on with mega impressive. A Fifthgear rating of 27.5 out of 30.
 
Call into the dealer to get a much closer look around the Evoque, I must say I was very impressed by the overall quality it gives off, much better than either of it's rivals. I'm amazed just how much room it has inside, especially the rear for such a short car. Boot is just OK, though there's a false floor which improves things a little.

Getting one out in January for a couple of days, so will write a report on what I thought of it. :t-cheers:

The 3 that were in the showroom were a silver 3dr which I don't like the sloped roof, a White 5dr Dynamics and a Grey 5dr SE. Don't know what their demo model is apart from it being 5dr diesel.

Social middle class climbers will absolutely love this car. It cost not much more than a A5 sportback or well equipped 3-Series Coupe but makes the driver look upper class. It's like when the Caynne was Introduced. Suddenly families cold pride themselves in owning a Porsche as opposed to a Mercedes, BMW or Audi.

Quite right about the Cayenne because I fell into that category, the Touareg is in reality a Cayenne minus the Porsche badge but I wouldn't have considered buying it over the Cayenne. There's a certain amount of badge snobbery at play which is why I think Landrover chose to call the Evoque a RangeRover.

The Evoque is stunning, yet too expensive IMO. And a Porsche Cayenne will be (for now) my preferred replacement for the X6 just that the finances does not allow that now.;)

If you base your opinion on the amount of metal on offer then I would have to agree, but based on its ability then I reckon it's up there with the best of them. Out of interest I took the time to build one on the website and it ended up at £43k which is considerable when you think about it.

I do agree fully Deckhook - based on looks, ability and prestige (also the lovely interior) the total package is not outrageously expensive. Yet if you compare it to a BMW X3 and Q3 for engine sizes/choice etc. it's just expensive.

The Evoque is badged as a Range Rover - not a Land Rover - and this brand cachet comes at a premium in the same way as it does for Range Rover Sport vs. Land Rover Discovery 4. Fancy car @ fancy price = diminished value proposition if style and status carry less weight as purchasing criteria. If, however, style and status are more important considerations in your purchasing decision than practicality, versatility and so on then you'll certainly be getting your monies' worth in the Evoque. That it looks so cool is reason enough to justify its steepish price tag.

It's price only looks dear next to the X1 and Q3 because when I specced up an X3 2.0d M/Sport to the same level as the Evoque the car ended up £5K more, with the Q5 is roughly the same price, though in each case their bodies are bigger.

I wouldn't call it "achingly beautiful" as the expression doesn't lend itself well to SUV descriptions. Instead, I feel the term is better suited to truly beautiful cars like the Jaguar E-Type, Ferrari Daytona, Miura and, in more modern times, the Aston DB9 etc. The Evoque is a stylish, handsome, arresting, striking, good-looking vehicle - but beautiful isn't a word I'd use to describe it.
 
^ Well I would have agreed with you right up to the point when I stepped into the showroom and viewed it from all angles, the detailing is right up there. Yes it's an SUV so the term beauty isn't usually referred to when describing them but on this occasion it's as striking to me as any R8, 458, Gallardo etc.

It makes all other SUV look plain ugly and boring by comparison.

For that reason it cannot be frowned upon. Rarely do we see a car transform from concept to production car without loosing critical eye candy such as bumper and diffuser designs with intricate details - Especially not at price points on this level. The car stayed true to its promise and in the metal it does make a strong impression. It's like a British Camaro, futuristic design for the young crowd.
