Vs AutoBild - BMW 114i vs Ford Focus 1.0 EcoBoost & Volkswagen Golf 1.2 TSI

F20 for me;) Golf will always be a favourite, also for me yes, but the 1er is the only BMW tested here:cool:

I dont wanna ignore the last test, but why was it posted here and not in the "internal combustion" ?

So what is that 'Oscar worthy' invention of the Ford focus in the side of the doors? I don't get it???

(the picture next to the data)

114i has the biggest amount of torque but the flexibility is disappointing! :(
60-100 in 13 s???
Weight? Gearing?
What is the reason?
VW is the right choice here. It is perfect.

The Bimmer is a 1.6Turbo and makes 102hp. Renault had for years a N/A 1.4l engine that made 101hp.

I'd take RWD, easy. However, the hideous face of 114i has forced me to make an exception here. VW for me please.

A 15 year old alfa 145 1.4 has 103 hp, doesn't mean that BMW haven't always been and still are one of the best at making great hp/l! Why should they build yet another engine for 114i alone. Just not cost effective.

RWD is almost pointless when you only have 102hp. It adds weight and reduces cabin space for no appreciable benefit, it also makes the car more expensive... which is why this 1er came last and the next 1er will be FWD.

To me the Golf is the ideal package in this price bracket, it's the best looking, has the nicest interior with the best spec on offer and it's got the best overall performance. At 100hp none of these cars will set the world on fire or trouble their chassises so the benefits of RWD don't outweigh the disadvantage chosing that formate IMO.

I don't get your point really. It's a severely detuned engine that's available in several states of tune.
If you want to compare that Renault engine to the BMW one, why don't you look at CO2 emissions, fuel consumption and the whole lot?

These door edge protectors.

Brilliant indeed!!!

It seems that BMW developed this engine to produce high torque at very low RPM rather than more HP at high RPM. (another example is 325i E90 (2.5L 218 PS 250nm, 3.0L 218 PS 270nm) )
But tallish gearing spoil the car's flexibility. (114i)
