BMW win because its more economical, lower ownership costs and the best resale value. Also, its the most practical car.

Long gone are the days when BMW won because it drove better, had better steering, better suspension, better handling, better engines, despite costing more, having less equipment and using more fuel...

This comparison is so irrelevant. 5er Touring should be vs A6 AVant and E Estate.

Fact is, BMW does not have any model in this segment.

Audi A7 is in both CLS and CLS Shooting Break segments.

Should be the 5GT. Ok, IMO that F10 Wagon looks just awesome in the comparo pics, who would have thought!?

Nor does Audi. BMW has the 6er GC against the A7 and CLS sedan. Autobild somehow chose the 5er Touring, I don't know why. Makes little sense indeed...

Autobild tested the 530d GT versus the E350 CDI T-model a while back. :)

BMW 530d GT versus Mercedes-Benz E350 CDI T-model/Estate

Conclusion

The BMW 5er GT drives nimbler than the Stuttgart Estate - surprising for its size. Faster, more comfortable and luxurious it may be, but not in the limelight. In transport tasks, it loses, and copes consistently worse than the Daimler. What is left? A sovereign victory for Mercedes. The all-rounder is even less expensive and more economical. At best it may lack in originality - an accusation the Mercedes can certainly live with.

And where do you place the 6er GC?
And I agree this is a weird compare. The BMW in this test should be the 5er GT.

The 6er is in CLS sedan segment, as the 6er will have a Touring variant which will be in CLS Shooting Break, Panamera Turismo segment.

Audi opted fastback for its A7, which is in both segments. It has smaller storage than the shooting breaks but more than the sedans, kinda in the middle. It's unlikely that Audi will make an A7 Avant, isn't it ?

That's one way to look at it ;) One could say it's in neither segment, too.

Wolfgang, that E Estate vs 5er GT test further proves my thinking that the journalists prefer a real wagon over any crossover wagon. The other cars might be better, but they compromise too much on the practical side.

I can't believe how the "regular Sedan-Wagon" crushes the two "super-4-Door-Coupe's" in looks so badly. Totally upstages the fussy and messy CLS. Again, this is "just a 5-Series" VS M-B's most fashionable car. The A7.... well let's just say it needs help (IMO).
