Audi's Historic Concept Cars Go on Show
INGOLSTADT — Starting on February 1 and running through the end of April, you can see a dozen stunning Audi concept cars from the past 40 years in a special exhibition at the company's Forum Ingolstadt museum.
Cars on show include the 1971 NSU Ro80 Pininfarina Quarz, the 1991 quattro Spyder and Avus quattro. The latter is notable as the first VW Group product to feature a W12 engine.
There are some oddball concepts to see as well. They include the Audi Student, a small-car idea for Audi dating back to 1970, and the 1976 Audi motorcycle with its four-cylinder engine from the Audi 50. One can't-miss car on display will be the forerunner of the A8, the ASF (Audi Space Frame) concept of 1993 with its aluminum body and V8 turbodiesel direct-injection unit.
More recent Audi concept cars are also on show, including the Rosemeyer, Nuvolari, and RSQ prototypes. The RSQ was designed as an impression of an Audi of the year 2035, and it starred in the movie I, Robot. There are also some that point the way to Audi's next-production models: the Avantissimo and Steppenwolf will be there, as will the Pikes Peak quattro, which formed the basis for the new Q7 SUV.
