An interesting look at the different All wheel drive systems used by the German car manufacturers the Audi: Quattro , BMW: xDrive and Mercedes: 4matic. The tests do not necessarily prove which is the best system, but how they cope with the same challenges.

Slightly off-topic but how times have changed with BMW's M differential from the last decade.
NB. forgive the 240p video, it was produced some 12 years ago. An oldie but a goodie..

I think 1 has a variable M diff and the other doesnt have any diff lock. The old M5 has 25% mech diff lock. Very interesting video.

Thanks for these interesting videos @hovabongZA about the intelligent AWD systems tests. The Lexus is not so good at testing the Rear Wheels and individual wheels as well. VW Toareg is good but I am surprised how excellent the Maserati system is.

Interesting so the E63 M6 came with an option of a variable differential I thought that was standard on all M6s.

This is a very important point. In challenging conditions in real life tyres will have a huge impact on the performance of the AWD system. it's still comforting to have a system that's good on stock tyres. Last year i was mighty impressed by how well my xDrive performed in the snow on summer tyres.

They now time how long the vehicle take to complete the task interesting.
