Videos Audi TT-RS vs M2 vs 718

TT-RS is on a completely different level it's a budget supercar. I really wonder how the RS5 is going to perform the TR-RS is considerably quicker then the M4, C63 and QV.

I've driven a manual 718 Cayman S. Hope is not lost entirely as it's easily still the most visceral and rewarding motoring experience to be had in the class.
However, just as so many punters have lamented, whilst the new 2.5 boxer four-pot is acoustically competitive with its contemporaries, it's just so not a patch on the previous 3.4 litre, naturally aspirated flat-six for aural exquisiteness. Throttle response for a turbo-four of such outputs is surprisingly good but there's a flaw - not in the engine itself - but in the approach to driver involvement...

Speaking to the salesman in the car during the drive, I was informed that the auto throttle-blip feature could not be disengaged in Sport and Sport Plus modes. Only in Normal mode is this feature deactivated (which at least is somewhat fortunate for the DIY heel-n-toe types) but this, in itself, deprives those fleet-of-foot of the sharper throttle response modes.
This means that, for someone like me - who yearns for the challenge of the fully, left-to-your-own-devices, manual experience - Sport and Sport+ modes simply wouldn't get used.
Make no mistake, for the less skilled helmsman looking to enjoy the manual experience, the auto-blip function does an amazing job of flattering the driver whilst still imbuing the driving experience with lots of involvement. For one thing, your mates and missuses will reckon your middle name is Walter but for me it's just a little bit of a shame all the same.

@Sunny - care to elaborate on your GT4 experience regarding auto throttle-blip?

Manual M2 alllllll the way. Nothing beats it in this class and for this price. Not in looks and not in fun.

Well that's nice and that's for you, obviously. The issue for me with the manual M2 is that the only way to disable the auto throttle blip (which is a key component in my list of fun attributes) is to switch out the DSC altogether. Which is fine if you're heading off for some track day hoonery but rather oblivious to the risk to your substantial investment for use on public roads where real drivers practice the art upon every occasion. Shite, I recently drove my mate's VW Caddy under duress and heel-n-toed that thing like a bitch. It's all but a lost art but for the very few of us who put in our 10 000 hours - it's the most rewarding thing about driving a manual.

I'm all but convinced that a manual Cayman S will be more fun to drive than a manual M2.

Auto-blip function is the automotive equivalent of Viagra.

I think in the GT cars they got it right - the "auto blip" function is controlled by a dedicated on/off switch. The switch is still labeled "Sport" mode but all it does is control the auto blip function and nothing else.

To be pedantic, it apparently also affects the temp at which the 3rd radiator becomes operational, but otherwise doesn't effect ecu/traction/transmission/suspension settings like the sport/sport+ modes in other Porches.

And yes, I love heel-toeing myself, but have to admit it is amazing how well the cheat mode works, especially on rapid fire downshifts! :cautious:
