Haha, you can acutally see the rope pulling it up in that one:D

Sorry but that is BS. How will the car stop and return back from the top? By using reverse?:t-banghea

By using neutral and the rope easing it off little by little.

I'd ask the same question if it wasn't getting winched up.... ?????

I only watched it once but clearly saw a rope in front of it, whether or not it was simply for 'support' or something I wouldn't know but it looked pretty obvious to me it was getting pulled up.... and to answer your question, as BMWFREAK said, simply stop the winch, chuck the car in neutral then reverse the winch and bob's your uncle :)

I think Yannis, you must accept that the ad was intending to convey the car was driving up the ski jump using it's own "Quattro" technology -- this is an old advertisement ..they didn't have the digital tricks we have today ...we were not supposed to notice that rope.

Ahh, the '80s. Look at this thing, it's a classic!

Of course there was a rope, even the most recent one used a rope. It's there for a SAFETY reason, but I'm sure it's not pulling the car upwards.

the video is so old school, and it's amazing how audi can do this back then. i do see the rope, but like yaz amg said, i believe it's there for safety reason and that makes perfect sense to me.
it's also amazing how some people can be so sure that the car was being pulled by the rope as if they were there, gotta love fan boy reaction.

Yep, thats what it was for SAFETY, in case it slipped off....

The car pulled itself up. :t-cheers:

OK, I'll take your word for it Alex and Yaz ...pretty impressive.

The car in the latest commercial only has the rope for a safety reason but the car in the latest commercial required a few attempts before it made it so I doubt that the old one is real.

The cable is quite obviously not pulling the car - at least not in the shot where it is visible, as the cable would be tense if it had the weight of the car to pull up. All the new A6 needed to get up the very same ski jump was a set of spiked tires, and I suspect that's what they had 20 years ago, too. I believe any car equipped with continuous AWD and a decent amount of power (and spiked tires) would make it up there.

Thanks for pointing that out Mike. The cable is not tensed. If it was tensed it would be visible not only in front of the car but all the way up.:usa7uh:
