A5/S5/RS5 Audi RS5 Thread (Spy pics & info)

The Audi A5 is a series of compact executive and grand touring coupé cars produced by Audi. Production: 2007-
Yes, modified to have a slightly higher output (449PS = 330 kW).

Interesting, Audis usually need way more power to be as fast, so will be interesting how it compares to M3.

Very interesting South, very interesting.

I'd be gobsmacked if Audi didn't leverage off the supercharging success of the S4 and make the S5 a V8 TFSI with a supercharger neatly slotted in the V. Maybe it's once more too heavy a configuration to hang ahead of the front axle? 330 kW? Doesn't seem like it's enough - though it does match the M156 in the C63 AMG - and then the only way I can think of them achieving that out of the 4.2 litre engine is through higher rpm. 9000 rpm limit anyone?

Audi is all so over the place with the engines configurations (not that it is a bad thing, variery being spice and all that), I doubt they have any strong preference for any one approach. It is a 2l 4 cylinder turbocharged engine in TTS, 5 cyl turbo in TT-RS, supercharged V6 in S4, NA V8 in R8, NA V10 in R8 5.2, NA V10 in S6, V10 TT in RS6.

I agree with you Sunny.

Nonetheless, other pundits would view it as a veritable dog's breakfast! Is it sustainable?

Absolutely, the redline is higher than the M3's. R8 V10 is limited at 8,700, so I doubt marketing would allow the RS5 V8 to top that figure.

I would love the RS5 to be N/A with 450bhp as nothing and i mean nothing beats and N/A engine at 8500rpm:eye8:

But if we look at the past sequencing on S4/RS4 we have the following: -

B5 S4 2.7 turbo / B5 RS4 2.7 turbo ( highly modified but same block and size)

B7 S4 4.2 N/A V8 / B7 RS4 4.2 N/A V8 ( totally transformed but same block and size)

therfore if history repeats itself the

B8 S4 3.0T / B8 RS5/(maybe 4) 3.0T (in a highly tunes state).

I could be wrong, and i hope i am, as id love the same engine as ive got in my B7RS4 but +20%

Believe me, there are no more doubts about the 4.2 NA engine. Regarding transmission choices, there will be both manual and a 7 speed S-Tronic.

No DCT or S-tronic as Audicalls it in S4? Especially when they have one that can handle the torque?

Latest info says the RS5 will almost certainly debut at the Essen motorshow (28th November to 6th December).

It will be on the road in June 2010.
Will be presented at Geneva show.
I am happy to see it before.
Engine also V6 very possible, they are testing more engines.

It would take a hell of a re-worked version of the S4's V6 to compete with the M3, C63 etc. I don't see them doing that IMO.

There are S4s with reprogrammed ECUs that make 400+ HP and way more torque.

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951).
