Re: Audi RS5 thread.

I suggest that Richboy and Bmer calm down.

Two of your posts have already been deleted.

Consider this a warning.

Thank you.

Re: Audi RS5 thread.

They say that the RS5 is going to be heavier than the M3. How can this be when the A5 weighs less then the A4 B7. And the RS4 b7 weighs less than the New M3.

RS4: 1655 kg
M3: 1660 kg

ANd I am sure that the RS5 will be much lighter than the S5.

Here we go again.

It has been explained zillion times already.

BMW figure (1655kg) by EU standard (incl 68kg driver + 7kg cargo), Audi figure by DIN standard (excl. 75kg for driver + cargo). In the end RS4 is still 70kg heavier than M3.

Mind that Audi ALWAYS states weight figures for its cars by DIN standard, while BMW figures are ALWAYS by EU standard.

Audi RS 5 Engine Speculation and Rendering

Following Audi's self imposed schedule of having only one RS model on the market at a time, deliveries of the brand new 573hp twin-turbo V10 RS 6 Avant are getting underway for 2008 as the B7 RS 4 ends its production. With RS cars typically having a two year life cycle, the next RS model is expected to debut in 2010 as MY 2011. The most likely candidate to take over from the RS 6 is the RS 5 Coupe since - by that time - it will be in the second half of it's life cycle, although too early for the all-new B8 A4.

With regards to the horsepower wars amongst the German auto makers, Audi had positioned previous RS and S models just above and below the competition, the BMW M3 (420hp) and Mercedes CLK 63 AMG (480hp). And much of the chatter lately in the media seem to be supporting that - as the figures put the RS 5 between 450 and 500hp.
Earlier this year Car Magazine reported the RS 5 will receive the 4.2 liter V8 currently in the RS 4 with the addition of two small turbochargers for an additional 30hp to 450hp and 500 ft-lbs of torque across the rev range. More recently, Road&Track magazine reported that the RS 5 will use the Lamborghini Gallardo derived 5.2-liter V10 like the current S6 and S8 models - but with output bumped up to 500hp.

Adding to the speculation train, the use of a bi-turbo system on the already high-strung 420hp 4.2-liter V8 for an additional 30hp is very possible although improbable. If Audi is going to use a V8 engine, displacement needs to be increased since the RS 5 needs to produce over 480hp to be positioned above the horsepower leading CLK 63 AMG's 480hp. Alternatively, a slightly detuned Gallardo V10 making 500hp seems the most logical candidate. We already know the MLP platform that the A5 uses also serves as the basis of the future A6 and A7 models which are destined to fit the 5.2-liter V10, so engine fit in the RS 5 shouldn't be an issue. The only questionable issue with the V10 is weight distribution adversely affecting handling.
Audi has already marked the importance of the A5 by stating the lineup will be diversified starting with a convertible version, and undoubtedly the RS 5 will also fill a long time void in Audi's model line. Hopefully, we will see a RS 5 concept in 2009.
What engine do you think the RS 5 will get?

Re: Audi RS5 Thread

But audi dont have a 4.0 engine do you mean 4.2?
No, i mean 4.0 litre.
Logical thinking, why not use the same technical development on 3 Bi-TFSI engine's like a 5.0 V10, 4.0 V8 and 3.0 V6.
Bore, stroke, chrankshaft, piston's, turbo's, cylinderhead, intake manifold specs all the same minus 2 or 4 cylinders.
That's "Baukasten" technology in full.

V10 5.0 Bi-TFSI 580 hp.
V8 4.0 Bi-TFSI 464 hp.
V6 3.0 Bi-TFSI 348 hp.

It is allmost the same with the 3.2 V6 FSI, 4.2 V8 FSI end 5.2 V10 FSI.

Re: Audi RS5 Thread

So soon 4.2 V8 will get ditched?

Is the 3 litre V6 out yet?

Why not just bi turbo the 3.2 and 4.2 etc?

Re: Audi RS5 Thread

This is one of the most anticpated cars of 2008 in my books. Cant wait to see this beast unleashed!

Enter the Rumormill: Audi RS5 may get detuned Gallardo V10

The Audi A5 was unveiled at Geneva to much fanfare, and within 30 seconds of pictures hitting the net the elegant coupe was been surrounded by rumors. We knew the S5 was part of the package, but since the newest Audi had two doors, cabrio conjecture wasn't far behind. Perhaps the most anticipated A5 talked about is an RS version, which could include either the high-revving 420-hp 4.2L V8 found in the RS4, or the Lamborghini-sourced 5.2L V10 found in the S6 and S8.

The scribes over at World Car Fans point out that the RS version typically one-ups AMG and BMW M cars, and with a 480-hp CLK out there, the Gallardo V10 would make a nice trump card. We're inclined to agree with that hypothesis, since Audi already has the powerplant in the corporate parts bin, and there isn't much tuning necessary to get it back up to 500 HP. Audi has also shown just how serious it is about keeping a power edge against RWD competitors after it had the lug nuts to slap twin-turbochargers on the V10 destined for the RS6 Avant. Either way, Audi is no longer interested in being an also-ran in the luxury market, and big-horsepower coupes will only make the brand that much more appealing to enthusiasts.

Re: Audi RS5 Thread.

I really hope that the RS5 will be V10 powered.:D

Do you really want a heavy V10 hung in front of the front axle. Look at all the unflattering comments the RS6 is getting. I'd rather have the RS4 V8. It is powerful enough and should help with handling compared to the V10. Save the V10 for R8, where the weight won't matter much cause of the mid engine lay out.

The RS6 (like the A6) has the old architecture. A5 is much more balanced plus the 5.2 lt NA V10 from S6 and S8 is low weight (no turbos and intercoolers).

RS4's V8 is underpowered by today's standards.

Considering that the S5 is not much faster than the old S4, I doubt how much difference the new architecture makes, especially if you hang a V10 from the front axle. Remember the V10 is not just heavier, also longer which means it will push the center of gravity even more forward. Also I am sure Audi could get more HP from the RS4 engine.

FCK the S version.. ! RS is the only worthy contender!

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
