A5/S5/RS5 Audi RS5 Thread (Spy pics & info)

The Audi A5 is a series of compact executive and grand touring coupé cars produced by Audi. Production: 2007-
Re: Audi RS5 thread.

going by the S5 and R8 I think it will be pretty certain that the RS5 will only get 420hp meaning the new M3 is holding up very well for when the RS5 does come :eusa_danc

Re: Audi RS5 thread.

The RS5 will have a V8 but with new technology incoporated into it to improve performance and efficiency. In essence the RS5 is a coupe of the upcoming new A4 which will be larger than presnet A4. As the present RS4 has a V8 we can assume that the new RS4 with new MLP chassis will also have a V8. Makes no sence to give the RS5 a V10 as not a competitor to M6

In the automotive industry there is constant evolution. Previous RS4 had a V6 , this one has a V8 so the next logical step is a V10 in the next RS4 and RS5.

Re: Audi RS5 thread.

Yannis you well may be right with the alleged proposal of the W12 in the future A8 as this would fit with your rationale of constant evolution. However wouldn't a V10 in RS4/5 devalue RS6 even if it was detuned

but it has to stop somewhere, I doubt there will ever be a 20-cylinders RS4.

Re: Audi RS5 thread.

I agree. New technology will be the emphasis on gaining more power while reducing emissions

Re: Audi RS5 thread.

As long Audi is in charge!

For example E65 AMG has a V8 and SLR also has a V8 , i can't see why SLR is devalued by having the same number of cylinders in the engine with E class.

RS5 and RS6 can both have a V10 but if the first has 480 hp and the second 550 hp (rumored numbers) then the power difference is more than enough to justify the price and internal status difference.

Re: Audi RS5 thread.

E65 and SLR are completely different cars standing alone in their own segment. RS5 and RS6 are also different but very close in Audi model line up.

However there is a similar comparison in what you are saying between the S6 (435 PS) and S8 (450PS) so you may well be right Yannis.

So would you say that engine evolution will also occur in next RS4

From what i have heard A5 can take the 5.2 lt V10 under the hood and quite possibly the next A4 will be able to do so but there are no certain information if Audi intends to make a V10 powered RS5.
It's very possible that a new 4.6 lt V8 will be used or the current 4.2 lt of current RS4.

New engines are always nice, but expensive. 4,6 V8 would do the trick I think. Now that Audi has put the engine on the right side of the front axle they will probably want to keep the engine as short as possible. Then the current 4,2 V8 could be fitted in next generation S4/5 for example.

Re: Audi RS5 thread.

I'm still pretty sure that RS5 will have V8 4.2 FSI (420 HP) from RS4 B7. Yes of course they can fit V10 5.2 under the hood of A5, no problem. But is it worth it?

Re: Spy-shots: The new Audi RS5?

Wow what a surprise. It seem like Audi is eager to get the RS5 out on the roads as soon a possible. The RS5 might be available before 2009. My dream scenario is if Audi have the balls to stand up to BMW like a man and don't tune the V8 engine, leaving it like it is with 420hp.

lol so for audi to prove themselves as contenders they shouldnt make the engine any better :t-crazy2:

If it has the 5.2l V10 that thing is going to understeer like crazy. Too much weight for this car.

Re: Spy-shots: The new Audi RS5?

^thats nutts..would give the M3 one heck of run for its money..in terms of looks:D

In terms of looks the S5 is in a class above the M3, the only thing that's yet to be determined is performance imo!;)

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951).
