Audi needs to put the 5.2 lt V10 with 480 hp (same engine with V10 R8) in the RS5. 420 hp are not enough.

No they need to put the 582hp RS6 engine in it if that's what the true output will be and watch the crowd go wild!

Instead of the big, heavy, normally aspirated 5.2 V10 engine, what about a twin-turbocharged version of the RS4 high-revving 4.2 V8 FSI producing 525 Bhp?

It would be lighter than if it had a V10 under the bonnet and therefore the handling would be better.

Remember then new M3 V8 weighs less than the old I6, so don't assume a V10 is automatically heavier than a V8.

And if the R8 has proven anything for Audi, it is you dont need massive amounts of horsepower to be a fast car. Yet lots of people still complain about not getting enough horsepower to power a small city for a week.

But we also know that driving is not just a straight line and that's where Audi will be better than M3. Just guessing.

You know M3 (or BMW M in general) has never been about being fast in straight line so saying (/suspecting) that Audi will be better when the road gets twisty is quite brave. But we'll see!

Exactly the ///M division is known for their track capabilities while still having that straight line speed. With S/RS you get loads of grip, with AMG you get immense straight line speed...with ///M you get it all.

The 4.2 lt V8 with two turbos , intercoolers ect. should weight much more than a NA V10.

The RS5 will have a N/A V8 with about 450-470hp.
There's no need for 10000+hp when the car is on the MLP platform and much lighter then the RS4.

I actually had heard 390 hp.

I guess rumors are not always true that's why i 'm so sceptical about RS6 getting 580 hp.

On the other hand the RS5 can take the V10 engine under the hood (enough space) so Audi would be stupid to use a V8 engine.

I am not going to enter any speculations because as we all know we are all just throwing around what we want to happen. We have all heard great things abour the RS4 engine and im sure if they put it in the RS5 with some tweaks for more power, that would be ample. That would put it in the same HP range as the M3.

Yes, but do we know the weight of the 3series and A5 because that would be a big factor to look at? The A5 looks bigger than the 3er to me.

Very hot! I really hope this is the real deal. It would be super crazy if this car was fitted with the V10 as Yannis suggested sometime back. (I guess Audi wants to save that for the RS6 debut) Anyway the V8 should work just fine.

My point is that RS4 cars never had the same output with M cars. Look at previous RS4 , this RS4 , the previous RS6 and for sure the new one.

So if the M3 has 420 hp then the next RS4 and RS5 will have more. Simple as that.

Yannis, I don't think that's so simple... E92 M3 isn't out yet. Very soon after new M3 comes on the market, will be out RS5. The time difference won't be big. So that's why I think that it's posible that RS5 will have well known engine from RS4. But I'm not saying that for sure. I really hope that It will come with tuned V8 4.2 FSI to 450 HP for example.

You are right- it will be crazy fitting a V10 into this car, and that is why it won't happen.
