A5/S5/RS5 Audi RS5 Thread (Spy pics & info)

The Audi A5 is a series of compact executive and grand touring coupé cars produced by Audi. Production: 2007-
I can: They have to wait for new AMG/M models to see what they have to do for their next car. Audi is reaction rather than action.

Yeah, but the new AMG and ///M models are already here. If AUDI is "reacting" to them, they're sure as hell taking they're sweet ass time. C63 and M3 are already more than couple years old now.

Have you seen the new e-tron Klier? Looks like action to these eyes!

The E-tron has nothing to do with this, especially the fact that it was presented as a electric. :D

Does anyone know if this will ship with the new google earth application? Or even the newly announced Nvidia chips?

Most likely not in the RS5.

OT:
Did audi discontinue the RS4??
Cause if not..we should see some spy pics of the RS4..

Cause thats the real M3 and C63 competition..
This mofo will cost near 100K

It does in my view, because Klier's comment that I was referring to is a sweeping statement, "Audi is reaction rather than action".

According to Fourtitude they are only planning to make RS4 Avant (I don't know if there are plans for an RS5 Sportback though):

More interesting on the RS 4 is that it returns to the example set by the B4 RS 2 and B5 RS 4 to be sold as an Avant only. Sources tell Fourtitude that the RS 4 sedan was done to meet U.S. demand. Without North American planned inventory, an RS 4 sedan fails to make a case for itself.

Why no RS 4 sedan for America? The theory is that there’s only enough market for one RS model within the B segment in the USA and that model is the more premium and more mainstream sexy coupe. Audi remains coy as to whether even the RS 5 will make the final cut but this seems more message positioning than anything. Our intel suggests the RS 5 is all but a foregone conclusion for the States.

The A5 was presented about 6 months before the A4 Sedan and a year before the A4 Avant. So we could see the RS4 Avant at the same time with the RS5 or max. 1 year after it.

RS4 and RS5 are entirely different cars. The RS4 will come way later and have a completely different engine.

OK, you seem to have newer reliable info?

For my part I was basing my post on this article posted by George Achorn back in April 2009:

With a V8 S5 selling alongside a 3.0T S4 in the USA in 2010, the idea of a normally-aspirated high-rev V8 RS 5 and a twin turbo V6 RS 4 seemed intriguing to us. We posed the question to Audi AG engine czar Wolfgang Hatz and he said that the business case isn’t there for multiple B-level RS engines… even prior to the economic meltdown. Even though a twin turbo V6 project began during the development of the B7 RS 4 and it was again examined during the gestation of the S4, the RS 4 must share its engine and drivetrain in order to make a business case.

Whatever the hell the engine or car is, they're taking too damn long to show this one. I mean really. If it ain't at Geneva then I don't care!!!!!!!

The e tron doesn't bring anything new or special to the table unless as the rumours go this is the new R4. So it's hardly action.

Wat the guys are trying to say is that Audi always wait till the competition show their hand and then respond.

Eg. It's been almost 2 years and still no new RS4. With all their resources it should have been out ages ago. Same goes for the RS5:t-cheers:

I have nothing quotable, but someone I trust who happens to know a thing or two about Audi told me to expect an T in the name of the RS4 engine. ;)

I hope your source is right. Another RS-engine wouldn't be a bad thing. :D:usa7uh:

The RS5 looks like it will debut in Geneva. I have my February schedule released by the German Auto federation which lets you know of schedule when to reveal your models in front of the Geneva show.

Basically it is to avoid conflict by selecting your date slots for your new models , concepts etc. Everybody is listed and what they have to reveal.

I think the r8 and the latest embodiment of the etron "lead" and certainly don't seem reactionary, but thanks for the explanation braaf.:t-cheers:

...and how does the RS5 seem? Action or reaction?

I thaugt the question was on AMG/M/RS.

As I explained, my comment was a "reaction" to a comment that "Audi" is reactionary. So I pointed out a case where I did not believe this to be true.

Relative to the RS5, a little late to the dance. But so what? Is BMW reactionary with the F10 since the new E class premiered first?

All the three (and even others) are reactionary and react to each others moves/products. It is how competition works.

Without Lamborghini and the synergy of the VAG Family the Audi R8 cannot exist.

Simply put Audi can't sneeze without VW providing the tissue. Which is why the R4 or e-tron will not come out as an Audi specific platform or model , VW , Skoda ,SEATand most likely Porsche will bring forth.

Might be a shared platform but we will see it with an Audi badge. And why is this a negative anyway? The Cayenne outperforms the X5 and it's a shared platform.:t-hands:

The point made was that RS models always seems to come late to the dance.

In what way are the F10 and E-class relevant in that context?

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
