A3/S3/RS3 Audi RS3 (Spy pics & info)

The Audi A3 is a small family car (C-segment) manufactured and marketed by Audi AG since September 1996. The first two generations of the Audi A3 were based on the Volkswagen Group A platform, while the third and fourth generations use the Volkswagen Group MQB platform.
Frankly I don't agree with EDC or any adaptive suspension when it's not necessary. If BMW have got the 1M right regarding the suspension, i.e. it has good body control yet is still supple enough to offer a decent ride quality then all EDC adds is the option to soften or harden things but ultimately you will end up in auto mode more times than not.

As for the RS3, it's slightly different in my eyes, with so much more weight over the nose the benefits of magneticride suspension regarding body control is needed in this application as it's reaction are lightening quick, the fact that it also offers a decent ride is a bonus.

A new perspective and a good explanation, thanks footie:t-cheers:

I just thought of it in terms of ride quality and not about body control which in BMW's case goes hand-in-hand, actually body control more so.

Um when is it coming?
Damn thing is allready old before its release..

RS division..Easily the slowest tuner in the world .. in house or aftermarket!!!

I do agree that the RS3 is way to late to the party, but as you might already be aware the TT-RS and RS5 have appeared much sooner in the production cycle, pre-facelift in fact and this is a trend that will continue. Audi and looking to capitalize on the RS branding and you will see this improving to the point when they arrive in the model life similar to what BMW do with their M cars.

Audi should have released the new A3 but this will not happen until all the A1 models have been released. The only reason the RS3 has come is becasue BMW are releasing the M1 (or whatever they decide to call it). The 1 series competes directly with the A3. However the 1 Series is about 4-5 years younger than the A3.

The new A3 and 1 Series will now probably be released at similar times. I am looking forward to what an Audi A3 Coupe will look like more than anything else. Would have probably got the new A3 (Coupe) replacing my old A3 if it had been released this year but it wasn't. So now I have an A5. Different league of car in comparison to be honest but I did like the A3, lovely car.

I've only witnessed the FI engined cars producing more, be that VAG, BMW or Subaru, no doubt this isn't always going to be the case but one can only speak from their own personal experiences. :t-cheers:

P.S.
VAG diesel TDI engines always seem to be on the conservative side I find. ;)

If you go to RRI.se, you'll find that very few except VAG FI engines actually have the displayed power. The old 335i's that where supposed to do well over 320 hp, certainly seem like freak occurences. And just to clarify, the hub numbers from RRI, does not equal whp.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
