They cost exactly the same but offer two distinct types of experiences. While the R8 is a well engineered car with very high limits the GT3 is a bit more old school and offer the classic RWD configuration in the most playful flavor available. Personally I prefer the GT3 because it's lighter, allows you to do things that the R8 doesn't allow you to but yet it offers the best possible performance one can expect.

It's really an all in one car, uncompromised performance and uncompromised driving pleasure. There's really not much more you could ask for in a car at that price. Later this year it's going to set the car even higher with a nice 15-25hp power bump and PDK. I respect the R8 but to me it seems to offer the similar experience to a bicycle with support wheels, offers immense control but restricts freedom and driving pleasure.

Nightmare decision. GT3 offers more performance, R8 more comfort. GT3 probably offers a more exciting drive, the R8 is probably more easier to drive. GT3, the pride of owning a Porsche, R8 more exotic looks. Throw in a GTR in the mix and I'd rather decide which reproductive organ to give up.
