George Achorn , the editor of Fourtitude, drove the R8 and here are his first impressions:
I'm working on my article about the R8 and plan to try to run it very soon. For that reason, I'm not going to go into too much detail, but here are a few impressions to wet your whistle.
No surprise. I love the car. On the track, it is quite neutral. It will understeer if the only thing you know is throttle, but lift off and the tail comes around nicely, and that's with ESP still on. Off, it's even more animated, but with no safety net.
On the road, it's most compliant. The European sport seats (sampled) are nice, but won't be missed much as they won't be available. I also sampled the standard seats, which are fine, though not quite as hugging. This is easily a long-distance car.
Also, anywhere you stop this car, it draws a crowd. People pull out their cameras and immediately ask you about the car. I haven't experienced this sort of response to a car since the TT Coupe first came out, and this is so much more intense. We stopped everywhere from Valley of Fire State Park to a truck stop on Route 15 outside of Vegas and on the strip at the Belaggio's front entrance.
It's very impressive and great news for Audi. This car will reset the impression many people have of the brand, while also being a truly capable ride. More to come....
