R8 Audi R8 V10 (spy pics & info)

Coming later this year is the four-passenger A5 coupe, a rival for Mercedes' CLK, and the R8 sports car. That speed demon will come with either a 420-horsepower V-8 or a 480-horsepower V-10. It shares some components with the Lamborghini Gallardo, another affiliated brand, and will rival the Porsche 911.

I care more about the R8 V12 TDI.

OTOH i think 480 hp is enough for R8 to beat Ferrari 430.

It needs a whole lot more than just 480 Bhp. Heck! Any sport sedan these days can get 500+ Bhp. I reckon, Audi should push the R8 to the 550 to 600 Bhp barrier.

Why not a Twin-Turbocharged variant of the current 5.2 V10 with 650 Bhp? That would be 125 Bhp/per liter - not bad at all for a V10 Biturbo I reckon.

Guys just remember that the V10 R8 won't be the most powerful version. R8 V12 TDI will be the top version.

Since the 6 lt V12 engine is making 500 hp (and 1000 Nm of torque) there is no reason for the V10 version to make more.

I know that R8 V12 TDI will be the world's 1s diesel supercar, but i'm asking top of the line? So, there won't be some V10/12 petrol engine with more than 500hp...?

No. V12 TDI will be the top of the line but it will come in 2009.

i think 480 is not enough to seperate it from the v8, think about the extra wieght 2 more cylinders will bring. but if they make it more than 500, it is lambo territory, so i think they should just make one v8 and a diesel v12 as the top of the line.

a model line Audi never has made before, but porsche do and BMW.. (with great success)
CSL and GT-RS

I'm talking about lightweight.. If they make the R8 total hardcore with the overweight stuff taken away.. the V10 490 BHP engine will be great.. and it's not like the Gallardo or the V8 becauase it's a GT3-RS rival.. Pure Racing!

You know guys a supercar where you can pick from a V8, V10 and V12 sounds very much like just another boring family sedan to me.
Like a supercar where you can pick 3 different engines sounds very uncool and weird and everybody will just want the V12.
Its all about exclusivity and having 3 engines to choose makes this car lack in that department which is unfortunate when you see it's looks.

See I was unaware that the R8 was a supercar, I honestly thought it was a supercoupe! A supercoupe can be driven in every day situations, whether it be traffic, light to light, or screaming down the highway at 180!

P.S From what I've read it's rather comfortable and spacies!

Well yeah its a more of a supercoupe but many car mags label it as a supercar
and comparing it to supercars doesnt do much to disprove that either.
