These pictures show what could be a lightweight hardcore version of the R8 V10. The company has made no secret of its desire to create Sport versions of the TT and R8, which would be sharper and more track-focused.
Extensive weight gains would be achieved by the simpler bucket seats and removal of luxuries such as the stereo and air-conditioning. There are also motorsport-style quick-release buttons for the front cladding.

Visual changes, as can be seen from these spy shots, would be centred around sucking the car into the asphalt. The fixed rear wing and small aerodynamic blades fixed to the front bumper would give the car more traction.

The previous-generation Audi TT was treated to the Sport treatment, creating a limited-edition model with more power and less weight.
Audi hinted last year that intensified versions of its sports cars were likely; so far this black car and a similar silver R8 have been seen testing at the Nurburgring.

The power gains over the standard 518bhp R8 V10 will be minimal, however, ensuring that the car will still fall shy of the Lamborghini Gallardo’s LP560-4’s 552bhp.

I can live without an stereo, but please don't take the air-conditioning away!

Is the Gallardo going to be threatened by this? If it isn't then why bother?

In my world the R8 V8 would do very well. But I guess that if this is a success, then the concept will be applied to other models, basic market skimming.

maybe true. but I will always find anyother model above the R8V8
useless. !

Audi has been back at the Nurburgring testing a hardcore version of the R8, rumoured to be a Clubsport version.

This time around our snappers have captured a far more modified version of the R8. This car not only sports a fixed rear wing and small aero blades at the front, but extensively modified bodywork at the rear.

The diffuser appears larger and the pipes are no longer oval RS items, replaced with drainpipe-style round exhausts. The car now rides on large RS6 alloys and large intakes have been cut out of the rear bumper.

Fresh reports suggest the R8 could be two-wheel drive using similar hardware to the new LP550-2 ‘Valentino Balboni'. This is unlikely however as it would mark a considerable departure from Audi's tradition of powering its fast cars through all four wheels.

A lightweight interior and possibly composite panels will help contribute towards a 50kg weight reduction.

The power gains over the standard 518bhp R8 V10 will be minimal, however, ensuring that the car will still fall shy of the Lamborghini Gallardo’s LP560-4’s 552bhp.

This could be what they're using in order to get homologation for GT2 qualification (the R8 LMS has been doing very well in GT3 this year). That would lend some credibility to the RWD theory as Lamborghini have already developed the chassis for the LP550-2. Just a thought.

No quattro?

I personally don't understand the balance between Lambo and Audi...
Unless of course the new generation Lambo (starting with a new Murcielago supercar) will be "more" .... lighter than the Audi, stiffer than the Audi, faster than the Audi lower than the Audi.... +++

Audi was ment to be a super car for a family that was in a hurry...
this R8 is useless and too insane for a family.

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
