So what will it compete with? A3 platform seems too small to compete with the X3. Im guessing MB have plans for a similar sized SUV, any heard if BMW does ?

BMW were playing with X1 small SUV idea - based on E87 1er platform. As they did with MINI off-roader. But the calculations showed the demand was non-existing for such a vehicle of a premium brand. So the project would not be profitable enough - for BMW standards.

Maybe in the next generation of 1er. Who knows.

R56 based Mini SUV? Not really, but AWD "Traveller" is almost a reality. Some sort of MINI "Allroad" or MINI "XCountry".

RAV4 had a 3 door version, same with Suzuki Grand Vitara but those are not luxury SUVs.
Who knows , by the time Q3 makes it to production the plans might change and it might be a 5 door instead.

If that where to be the case, where does that leave the Q5?

Also the LD Freelander used to have a 3dr but the new model isn't going to have one because they didn't sell enough! Also the new RAV4 doesn't have a 3dr, maybe ones coming in the future!

I'm not gonna say that the X3 is a good looking car, because it isn't, but with my hand on my heart, I can firmly say I think the Q7 is ugly, so ugly in fact that the X3 is a better looking car, maybe not 5 million but more like 5 times better looking!

yep gotta agree the Q7 is no beauty.. its like a bus..

to me the hottest german suv right now is the ML its damn hot..
lets see what the new X5 will be like..i have high hopes...

New Audi Q3 impression from Autocar.



Greek edition of Autocar has a new impression of Audi Q3. They say that it will be based on A3 and the base version will feature the 2.0 FSI engine.

Yeah. It does look pretty realistic though I'm a bit spectical that it will be based on the A3 and not next gen A4(B8?).

Q5 will be based on next A4. Q3 is smaller so it needs a smaller platform.

Oh sorry, didn't read the title properly. I'm very postive to the idea of a two door SUV. It will be interesting to see if Porsche will use some of its VW power and develop their equivilent.

I hate it. It looks like a cheap Toyota RAV 4 wannabe. Waaay too small and kiddy looking. I hope it doesn't turn out like this.

Due out by 2012 I guess? Audi always is a *little* late with it's new cars....
