Scoring a 5:0 victory at the beginning of the week, title defender FC Barcelona managed a perfect kick-off to the new Champions League season. Effective immediately, star coach Frank Rijkaard’s team will also be hard to beat on the road: all players of the Spanish team with its proud tradition are now travelling to their practice sessions in Audi Q7 vehicles. Supplying the team with the new Audi models is part and parcel of a partnership now sealed by FC Barcelona and Audi for the next two years.

As befitted the occasion, the players with super star Ronaldinho received their vehicles at the Camp Nou stadium which, accommodating 100,000 spectators, is Europe’s largest football arena. In return, Audi will present the brand on banners in the stadium. Furthermore, the partners plan to work together intensively in the fields of VIP activities and ticketing.

The current Spanish champion, FC Barcelona, marks yet another prominent member joining the ranks of Audi’s football partnerships. The start of a close partnership with the German record champion, FC Bayern München, dates back as far as the summer of 2002. Since 2003, the players, officials and coaches of the record Champions League winner, Real Madrid, have been driving Audi models as well.

But I fought they had a non sponsor policy ?!

Actually it's 'no commercial sponsor logos on the playing shirt' policy. (Although they have had Spanish TV3 logo on the left arm since 2005.) No club at this level could do without sponsors.;)

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
