Maybe we should rename it to "Women and Audi classis" picture thread![]()

The 4 door sedan pictured is the first generation Audi 100 (code C1), which was introduced to the public in 1968.
An interesting story about this automobile. It began development during the time in which Auto Union was under Mercedes-Benz ownership. It was a very short era, M-B selling Auto Union to VW in 1965 I believe. The Audi 100s' development was actually an exercise conducted under an atmosphere of secrecy by a group of very passionate, dedicated yet defiant engineers. Far too similar to the then in development /8 M-B 200D-250 smaller sedan, the actual predecessor of the E-Class, while Auto Union was still under M-Bs' wings. And when Auto Union went to VW, Volkswagen top brass was concentrating on developing VWs' own upcoming middle-class sedan, the patently ugly und rather unsuccessful 411. In the end, the Audi 100 was almost forced onto VW top brass by the way of a compassionate appeal by those engineers who were instrumental in its' development. The car was remarkably successful in terms of sales. And it was perhaps the most advanced offering in its' model segment, a far more innovative automobile than the Opel Rekord or Ford 17m/20m. Many ascertained that it was a more advanced car than the /8 Benz.
