Audi & BMW poor results in JD Power, Porsche & Mercedes perform well

True but do JD Powers reports give a breakdown as to what the fault is in category of severity?

Personally I'm own loads of differing brands/models and I haven't found any to be worse than another but what I have found is differences in the quality of service received from their dealers that would ultimately effect my opinion on my ownership experience that would be reflected in a survey.

Nope you have to purchase that information I believe. I know, I know your British cars have the reliability of a Toyota.

I must say I did have a laugh at that one but in all seriousness if you don't get my point about survey then you choosing to be blind to obvious.

I get you're point, I've said the same thing before. People forgive and/or let things slide if the dealer kisses their arse. Still doesn't negate the fact that some brands are problematic.

Yeah, it could be BMW with dashboard rattles in almost every single car and Mercedes with gearbox and engine failures every second car.
You never know with such amateurish surveys that share no info. It's like telling someone that you are driving a four door car and expect him to guess the brand and model... pretty much that clear.

PS: They want publicity and that's it.

Well in that case I've never owned a brand that was overtly problematic, not in recent years anyway not Audi, BMW, LandRover, Jaguar, Volvo or Porsche.

Now if we were to go back 10-15 years I'd say yeah some brands are problematic but in all honesty there ain't a bad car anymore.

OK.

We can all can decide of our own if you want to take JD Power as universal law how good a car is or not. I read an article many years ago about JD so I'll take a stand and say, its not for me. To each his own.

^
What exactly did the article say to change your mind.
Too many years ago so I don't have the details in my mind anymore. I don't care and I take all kind of surveys with misbelieve, so it's not only JD.
You don't believe me, that's just fine. To each its own to believe what we want, lets not try to change others opinions.

When the surveys reflect many negative points of our favorite car brand, thay tend to be disbelieved.

Not trying to change someone's mind.

..or perhaps its the other way around GTA? Its just so sad people think everything is about fanboys on this place. In my case it has nothing to do with the brand. I'm 40 year old (not a virgin) and my fanboyism ended many years ago, thats why I drive a Ford.

any .. thoughts on the reliablity of the newish 4 banger turbo BMW engines.. powering the 328 and even 525i BMW?. and soon the Mercedes C300?

The 2016 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study is based on responses from 33,560 original owners of 2013 model-year vehicles after three years of ownership. The study was fielded from October through December 2015.

The study, now in its 27th year, examines problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of 2013 model-year vehicles. Overall dependability is determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100), with a lower score reflecting higher quality. The study covers 177 specific problem symptoms grouped into eight major vehicle categories.

Mercedes has been tumbling yet again. Their focus on rapid growth has made them lose sight of the absolute quality focus that were cornerstones of the W221, W204 and W212.

Wait unti next year! All those problematic 2014 CLA and S-Class models are going to cost them big time when it comes to their overall average. The E_Class however is one of, if not the most reliable car in it's class. All the bugs have been worked out.

Lots of issues withe the AMG C63 as well, it seems. The one thing I am happy about is that Mercedes has brought back their interior quality. The recent offerings from BMW all feel like cheap plastic. Audi's new A4 interior looks to be pretty darn good too.

Yep, all these new products at once are going to cost them in the reliability surveys, but they will sort it out by the 2nd and/or definitely the 3rd model year like they always do.

The W205 C-class has to be one of the most recalled cars in recent years and remember the angry golfer from South Korea who smashed his W222 S63? After that fiasco Mercedes recalled all S63 AMGs because of stalling problems related to the start/stop system.

I have this feeling of dread that the W213 will have a lot of problems and recalls. :(

There will always be teething issues with a new completely new model. Give them two or three years and all the kinks and bugs will be sorted out. The 7 is going through the same issue as we speak. Believe me, I am seeing it happen first hand.
