They have their advantages but nothing thats superior. I dont know for you but to me superior is a powerful word and if something is superior then it should be superior.
In terms of interior materials, driving dynamics, comfort, the three germans have nothing that is superior to each others. They have their advantages but superior, noway. Superior is just a fanboy term.

not to be a douche because I understand there's some language barrier in this forum obviously, but superior is not as extreme (or fanboy as you say it). Coke is superior to Pepsi here, but hell I'll drink both.

And I agree with Marcus

And it is incorrect. Fanboy term or not, that is your labeling of it. There are clearly superior cars to each other within the German 3 luxury brands. Maybe not class for class, size by size, but they do exists only if its a few. Superior means a better car.

Like I said superior is strong word to me. I rather use words like "better/advantage". If you dont agree with me so be it.

It is to me. I will be using words as "better", not superior. If I translate superior into swedish, it mean "överlägsen" and that my friend is a very powerful word.

The problem with better/advantage is that they don't mean the same thing, but superior and better do. Superior means better.

Ok , but I think its obvious I wasnt born with english as my first langugage and therefore words might mean differently to me than it does to others.

And that's all Marcus and I were trying to say. In English, superior doesn't mean a million miles ahead.

Ok but let me put it like this so you two are leaving my alone :D

Interior/materials = Audi is superior
Driving dynamics = BMW is superior
Comfort = MB is superior

Overall best package = that is subjective

:t-applaus

Well if that is the case then I don't want to read another thread about how much better a BMW is overall to a Mercedes or Audi.

The things you've listed are advantages, or really traditional qualities of each respective marque.

It is those things plus a myriad of other criteria that determine which vehicle is best overall.

All of these cars can't be excused on the "subjective". There has to be a class leader or superior vehicle otherwise we've been wasting our time here for years debating this stuff!

We can discuss which car is the best and what car you would pick but which car is superior that should end right now.

;)

If BMW are "becoming more Jap like" in quality, then what does that make MB? Apart from rare exceptions, the 3-Series comes out on top of the equivalent MB in terms of quality/processing. Seems like an exaggeration meant to elicit a response, but then Lexus and Infiniti quality is quite good.

Perceived quality is just that: very subjective. So when one says Audi blows away BMW (or MB), that is just an opinion. When looking toward seemingly objective sources for assessment, you see Audi's advantage does not represent a league's worth of difference. Examples in quality/processing/materials ratings from mags that have compared them head to head:

Auto Zeitung
330i: 173
A5: 175
(Same as they rated 335i vs S5)

AMuS
335i: 13
S5: 14

Auto Bild
M3: 18
S5: 19

In any event, it looks like Audi too are employing cost-cutting measures:
Audi's lost quality - Tester?s notes

Bear in mind that the S5 also uses that simplified hinge system, while even the 1-Series coupe retains the parallelogram hinge.

hmmmm.... good question.

I voted for the bimmer, because i think the E92 is a better car- in terms of engineering, value, balance, handling, powertrain etc etc.

However, if we're talking about looks, i would say its a dead heat. I think the stock E92, with 18" 335i wheels is a gorgeous set up. But i dont agree that the M package is good looking- in fact i think its a detriment to the design-same goes for the aero package. If i see a stock 335, i always turn my head to look at it--its a beautiful and cohesive design.

Pay attention to the line that crosses the door panel-follow it with your eye around the tail lights and around the other side, while the street lights glimmer off the sides, eventually leading to two beautiful head lights. Its such a flowing design-yet at the same time its a sharp contrast to all the rounded blaw shapes we normally see on the road. Its sharp and angular yet at the same time graceful--in design terms, its an amazing accomplishment. Take a look!

Ok so lets talk about the S5/A5 design. I remember first seeing it in person with a few of my college budies at LA auto show. We looked at, looked at the R8, back at the S5, back at the R8 and finally came to the conlcusion that it was boring. My dad came from another display, and decided for himself that it was one of the best looking coupes he had ever seen. And thats the thing, it seems like the S5 appeals to an older eye. I recall standing next to it and was unable to make out the design--to put it simply i just couldnt comprehend it, what it was, what the appeal was..

Needless to say, my mind changed. I was driving through West wood and remember seeing one at a stop light, head lights and L.E.Ds were on, the crease along side all of the sudden giving the car extreme presence, however without being vulgar-like say, an M6. It was gorgeous, i could see why someone would buy one, i could understand why my dad thought it was so gorgeous. Its a beautiful design and makes a great statement about its driver.

Just look at it!

Don't take my word for it, look the 2 words up, seriously.

M

I think this is a matter of confusion of language. A common translation of "superior" in Swedish would be överlägsen which mean something like "way better (than)".

Maybe?

It's something thats way way way better, something others doesnt even come close to. Its light years ahead so to speak, that is superior to me. It's a strong word to use IMO.

Oh well, nothing worth continue arguing about. Let's focus on E92 vs A5.

:) I wonder how many of you have seen or driven a AUDI A5/S5 or BMW E90/E92.. However, my vote goes to a5/s5

IRL, audi a5/s5 looks a lot better than E90/E92.. don't tell me it must be a S-Line vs. M-package comparism. A nice looking car is always a nice looking car, any add-on, sure, it makes the car looks bettter, but we are comparing stock vs. stock, which is the fundamental. It is never fair and very stupid to compare cars with packages on. how about a hamann or acs bmw comparing to s-line or ABT audis here? The question is gonna end.

I've personally owned a E46 330ci and many of my friends have owned E90/E92. But for people who owns E90/E92, I would say, 50% of them buy them is because it is a BMW, and 30% who buys them is because of the power. 20% who buys them because they love the look or first time to own a german car.

Let's be honest here. New generation of BMW no longer matches the quality of German cars. Just look at the paint and interior, will you pay that much of money ? I would not. Bmw is becoming more jap car alike.

I am driving an audi TT here as you can tell from audi_ttc2001, but let me know you the truth of owning both brands. In terms of look, audi is more modern and german, BMW starts losing its german look.

In terms of handling, BMW is still the king but you have to suffer the low quality paint and interior.

I know many of BMW fans would disagree with me here. But let's face the truth. I am talking about reality here.

Good point! :usa7uh:

..or you could do it like this to prove another point:

And... those bumpers and packages makes a difference.

Hmm..why are people comparing the M3 to the S5 (I know it's an A5 in the pic you posted)?
The M3 is NOT a S5 competitor. It's the 335i.
So, there we have to go for a picture like:

Good point there. Well, if an R8 is standing next to the S5, the R8 takes a lot of attention from it, cause it's such an exclusive supercar. But let me tell you, even thought the R8 is my absolute wet dream and favorite car, I have to stick my tounge out and say that the S5 is the most beautiful car Audi has ever made. There, I said it :)
