A1/S1 Audi A1 Metroproject Quattro Concept

The Audi A1 is a luxury supermini car produced by Audi. Predecessor: Audi 50, Audi A2. Production: 2010-2026.
OMG! I never expected them to make this little thing look so freakin' awesome. Damn, Audi is on a roll now. First the R8, then the beautiful A5, then the A4, and now this!!

I bow down. Love at first sight!!

I don't like it. It's another case of VAG overlap where I can't see what the new product brings to the table other than the caché of a luxury brand at a fire-sale price.

I'd rather see Audi indulge itself in another A2/A-Klasse type vehicle. I'm curious to see how this resoves itself, but I don't expect anything more than a half-assed Audi.

an interessting vehicle
its good for mini to have competition
i personally wouldn't sell my mini for this one though
still, a test drive is mandatory to give further comments

Nice cutesy design. But I fear it might do more harm than good to Audi taking the brand and the Audi design cues too down market. I don't know how enthused an A8 owner will be at the prospect of parking next to a $15K car that shares the grill with his $100K car.

Also not sure how many people need AWD in a little city car - AWD is just going to bump up the price and take up more space - looks like the wheelbase is much shorter than the Mini.

^wow^ i like:D

I like the car, but I'm not digging the Silver on the sides. The silver throws the design off for me and distorts the proportions. But other than that, it's cute car. And I don't say "cute" very often, especially refering to a car. :D

Thanks for that pic vroom_vroom... the interior looks very cool from that angle.

[...] it's cute car. And I don't say "cute" very often, especially refering to a car. :D

That was my first reaction too... cute... only I hate cute cars.

I agree with Shongqiz.

This car is just... another Audi, with no special inspiration at all. It looks as boring as the new A4, and for a subcompact like that it is a major flaw. It is not cute at all, it has Fiat 500 accents without beeing such a smile-inspiring car.

I hate this way Audi has to make ALL their cars loks exactly the same. A brand identity is good. But here it is clearly much too much.

They rounded a bit an A3, inclined the rear like a 500, and that's it... The interior is coming from the A3, meaning boring and bad-looking (but well-build, which in this category has no importance at all).

You can't use the same recipe and the same ingredients for all your cars! I mean, there is almost no suspense when a new Audi is released, you have the feeling you have already seen it!

The only beautiful Audi is the A5, even the TT has been watered in the 2nd generation.

This A1 will sell, of course, but won't be a big big hit outside Germany I think...

BTW, the actual A2 is so much better-looking, inside like outside... I love that fresh, original, but very Audi look. It shows an Audi can look different but keep beeing an Audi.

this car has got loads of potential.

Can anyone envision an S1??

That would surely give the cooper (+/-JCW) a good run for its money!

I highly doubt it. This car hasn't even made yet but you're already knocking the top dog? A bit too early to dream. :D

Audi creates it own iPhone clone, personal companion to the A1

When you were perusing through our gallery of images of Audi's A1 concept, you might have noticed something out of place. Ahone? In a press pack? ***?

Supposedly, the little device will act as a phone, MP3 player and NAV system – so nothing particularly new there. What is novel is that the "AudiPhone" has the ability to start your car on cold mornings, find your vehicle in a crowded car park and store photos taken by the onboard cameras. Nothing else about Audi's new gadget is available, but we're mere days away from the A1's unveiling in Tokyo. Let's just hope it isn't hermetically sealed in a display case like some other hot gadget.

Exceptional interior, chic looks for the glam brigade but, sadly, a little too cartoonish in the frontal styling (reminds one of a Disney channel character with a steely gaze) and too nose heavy as Eni pointed out.

It lacks the Mini's chunky retro-coolness and misses out on the 500's classic fashion. That said, it will sell in droves if Audi price and spec it right and make the driving experience sporty from a point-and-shoot perspective whilst imbuing that typical big car quality feel that you get with the A3. Engines are key; Mini's torque monster 1.6 turbo is terrific and charismatic so it's vital that the new car gets engines that are more inspirational than the typical appliance-like mass market fare.

Its more contemporary looks will no doubt appeal to those who are looking for something besides the retro theme. And, if they're really clever, a pukka 5 door Sportback will show the Mini Barnman how it ought to be done.

I like it a lot its the type of car i want when i am starting to drive:D BUT i don't like the thought of it being battery powered as well, i have got it stuck into my head that battery powered cars are un reliable

Audi have done well :D

It has a bit of Mini and Fiat 500 styling but overall is pure Audi.

I like that fake round bonnet line on the bonnet :usa7uh:

Hot sharp thing, but i think the Mini is way more elegant..
but of course this is more of a 'proper' car, so i guess they can't be directly compared... I wonder whether the next major restyling of the Mini will change the fact that it carries so much tradition (like the huge speed meter) and change the whole shape to something more modern. i mean why do you have to have the nearly upright front windscreen to be a Mini? i quite like the interior of this though, very simple but don't really feel cheap, the door panels looks pretty similar to those of the preFL 1series..

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
