Aston Martin One-77

I'm just waiting to see what the damn thing can do. All this slow motion footage is boring now. We need to see it on the track.

Great looking, potentially fabulous to drive and plushly finished interior. All good attributes. But a one million Pound price tag? I just can't see the driving experience being superior to that of the 599 GTO - a car that's a third of the price.

Now, some of you may point out the flaw in my sentiment based on my vocal preference for the LFA over the GT-R for almost 6 times the amount of money. But in this case the LFA most certainly brings a totally different level of unique behaviour and character over the GT-R to make it so appealing.

However, in the case of the 599 GTO vs this, I predict that the only thing the Aston will have over the Ferrari is a more luxuriously appointed cabin. I'm almost absolutely certain that the GTO will be the more dynamically rounded and capable machine.

So, as much as I'm a fan of Aston Martins in general, I fear that the One-77 has inadvertantly sandwiched itself between two cars. It won't come close to the Bugatti Veyron in terms of outright, straight-line performance nor will it have the dynamic talent and responsiveness of the 599 GTO. Of course for some people it will be a special machine but I can't help but feel that this car resides in no-man's land at the price.

^ In terms of straightline performance - in particular that untouchable top-end - there's no doubting that the Veyron juggernaut with its massive powerplant offers an experience that is different and in some ways beyond that of the GTO.

so it's purely the 2.5 sec that does it for you? I don't know, you know these cars just target a totally different group I think. The automotive world is full of stripped down cars which offer more driving pleasure than more expensive models. Like the M1 that's coming, chances are it'll be more fun than it's bigger brothers.

IMO, they veyron has that " I was here first" thing going for it. The GTO has the " truly stripped down driving experience" going for it. And it sure does offer a lot of bang for the buck compared to the veyron and the aston. IMO, it's worth the extra money over the GTO ( maybe a 100.000 less or so would be nice:D ) There is a premium that can be justified by the fact of how the aston does it, and in which comfort it does that, with the sense of detail only aston can do it, the veyron showed that. But its only problem is that it's been done before, by that same car.

Erm, no Rik, I don't think you get my position on the Veyron.

I am very much a driver involvement, dynamic perfection kinda guy. Hence my assertion in the GTO thread that the Ferrari is the single best performance car in the world. Period.

I'd never buy a Veyron if a car like the 599 GTO could be had.

But what I am saying is that, forget 0-100 in 2.5 secs, the pure thrust and ability of the Veyron to force its 2 tons through the air at 400 km/h with impeccable, unfaltering stability is deeply impressive. I bet that at 300 km/h the GTO will feel, let's say, "lively". The Veyron on the other hand will feel like it's just getting into its stride. So yes, I stand by my statement that in certain instances the Veyron experience is unmatched. Even more so, when you consider the levels of refinement and opulence that come with the car.

I think we might be looking at the worlds most expensive garage trophy here. The value of the car is not larger than the sum of it's parts, in fact, the only value it has is in the precious metals and materials used.

If the performance of the GT2RS and 458 are an indicator of what's to come, then the One-77 will be British toast in 2-3 years time with the IQ based Cygnet serving as baked beans. What makes the Veyron worth it's pennies is the unparalled acceleration experience which probably won't be eclipsed by any other car for another 3 year, and this is a car that was brought to market in 2005.

The One-77 on the other hand, is not future proof nor is the design innovative either. To me it's looking more and more like a glorified Vantage. I forecast it to set records for depreciation in the automotive industry..

When are we going to see the damn thing do some real driving or track work I wonder. The magazines need to get their hands on this ASAP.

compared with the sides and rear....the front needs to be more beefy ..but whom am i to say that:D....of course i would love to own :icondrool

By the time this comes out, there's going to be a brand new Veyron. LOL

On the other hand, someone who buys this can probably afford both. ;) And not everyone likes the Veyron, so it's good to have alternatives. :t-cheers:

You got me wrong. I'm not saying I don't like this. Just saying they are taking WAY too long for this.

It's like LF-A all over again. By the time owners take delivery Jota, MP4-25 and the 991 GT3 will be ready to show the car how overpriced and how not future it is.
