Report Aston Martin Boss Confirms Lagonda Plans, More Than One Model Coming

I like it a lot, it's a very elegant and stylish car. It appears very long (especially the bonnet that looks huge) and am I the only one that notices the front doors open upwards (like a Lambo and some other supercars)?

They've done that since the DB9 (the first application of the VH platform) as to avoid hitting the curb when opening the door.

Aston Martin Seeks Funding For SUV, Hybrid Tech: Report

Cash-strapped Aston Martin is seeking funds for an expansion from its current model range, two sources familiar with the matter have revealed to Reuters. The automaker, which is majority owned by Kuwaiti and Italian investment firms, and run by newly appointed CEO Andy Palmer, is expected to issue new shares or bonds to help raise between $156 million and $234 million.

One new model, according to the source, will be an SUV, something that was previously dismissed by Aston Martin design chief Marek Reichman. The premium SUV segment has been one of the fastest growing segments in recent years but a lack of a suitable platform has left Aston Martin out of the action. The Lagonda concept from 2009 showed what an Aston Martin SUV might have been like.

In addition to the SUV, a new sedan and hybrid technology are said to be in the planning.

Unfortunately for Aston Martin’s investors, the new strategy will mean the automaker will likely continue losing money until the end of the decade. Earlier this year, Aston Martin CFO Hanno Kirner said the automaker would return to significant profitability after 2016. Now, according to the sources, the profitability target has been pushed back to 2020.

The new round of funding will be addition to a previously raised $800 million, which is being used for factory upgrades as well as the development of a new platform to underpin Aston Martin’s next-generation sports cars starting with a replacement for the DB9 in 2016.

More details on Aston Martin’s future plans are expected to be revealed at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March.

Aston Martin has announced plans to sell the exclusive Lagonda Taraf in select European markets and South Africa.

Described as being "the finest of the fast cars", Aston Martin's Lagonda Taraf went on sale towards the end of last year in the Middle East and now the company has announced plans to expand availability in Continental Europe, United Kingdom and South Africa so it has been engineered in both left- and right-hand drive.

Total production will remain capped at 200 cars and all of them are powered by a 6.0-liter V12 engine outputting 550 bhp (410 kW) allowing the Lagonda Taraf hit a top speed of 175 mph (281 km/h). The super sedan is hand-built through Aston Martin's Q personalization division and all vehicles benefit from a carbon fiber body and a very luxurious cabin.

Check out the attached press release to find out all the countries where Aston Martin will sell the Lagonda Taraf.

I think they are making huge mistake by limiting production, this car has very little competition, looks stunning and I'm sure will be great to drive. I also really like the back seat, it's a much more special place to be than say then new S Class Maybach.

I perfectly know that this car's tech is probably very old and doesn't justify the 600 k$ price tag, but it still is so desirable, just like the old Rolls and bentley before the german takeover. Thre brits must be doing something right.

I agree with you
.....with only perhaps the Bentley Mulsanne as a serious competitor.

This is not competing against the Mercedes S class .......the people who will buy a Lagonda Taraf will more than likely already own an S class.

Limiting this to 200 units will maintain the exclusivity and rarity of this car in a world where the very words "exclusive" and "rare" have lost much of their meaning .......I mean how many more special "bespoke" edition Phantoms will Rolls-Royce produce before the model is replaced? ......it seems like there's a new bespoke edition every month!

Goodness. I wish Aston could get the level of investment that JLR has received. Imagine the products they could come up with then. This car should be sold everywhere, it would be a nice image booster for the brand. Pricey, rare and pretty unique looking, it can't miss. The U.S. market would snap it up as the rich look for the next new, you can't or don't have one, product.

Company will also add up to three new models
Aston Martin CEO Dr Andy Palmer has used the Shanghai Auto Show to unveil his “Second Century” plan for the automaker.

While we've already heard bits and pieces of the plan before, Palmer says Aston Martin will deliver a "new wave of products that are being developed under the largest investment plan in its 102 year history." He went on to say that by the end of the decade, everything single model in the company's lineup will be replaced and up to three new models will be added.

As Palmer explained, “The Second Century plan not only delivers exciting and highly desirable new luxury sports cars in the traditional sense, but also embraces new powertrain technology. I have challenged not only convention but also my team to investigate an electric version of the Rapide, a product which will undoubtedly be attractive for the China market."

The executive also announced plans to expand and integrate their popular Q by Aston Martin customization service into the company’s Special Products Division. Aston Martin says the new business unit will be able to create everything from unique interiors to the DB10 that will star in the upcoming James Bond movie Spectre.

Aston Martin Lagonda
Aston Martin is introducing a bespoke product programme for a new super saloon that will see the revival of the historic Lagonda nameplate in a strictly limited series.

As has traditionally been the case, the Lagonda badge will once again sit proudly on a luxurious and exclusive super saloon.

The stunning luxury super saloon revives the Lagonda ethos of ‘the finest of fast cars’ and will be offered exclusively in the Middle East, as a result of specific market demand.

The return of Lagonda follows in the wake of other headline-grabbing projects such as the One-77 hypercar, V12 Zagato and last year’s CC100 Speedster Concept – then seen as the ultimate Q by Aston Martin car – which started out simply as a centenary celebration design concept and, as a result of exceptional demand, later turned into two customer commissions.

Based on the brand’s existing flexible VH architecture, the new car draws inspiration from the highly sought-after William Towns-designed Lagonda of 1976 and features many of the same cutting edge engineering techniques seen in modern Aston Martin sports cars such as the use of carbon fibre in the body panels.

It will be hand-built by the finest craftsmen and women at Aston Martin’s modern manufacturing facilities in Gaydon, Warwickshire in a dedicated building previously given over to the creation of the One-77 hypercar.

The new super saloon will be offered for sale by invitation only and, while precise pricing details remain confidential, the asking price will be commensurate with the car’s exclusivity, quality and luxurious nature.

Aston Martin Design Director Marek Reichman said: "The debut of this luxury super saloon in the Middle East market will be an exciting moment not only for Aston Martin, but for discerning customers who are seeking the ultimate in luxury and personalisation. The new model, like its exclusive siblings the One-77 and V12 Zagato, has been created as a piece of exceptional automotive art. It has been designed and developed entirely in keeping with the spirit and ethos of previous Lagonda super saloons – notably the William Towns Lagonda

Aston Martin Lagonda looks massive on London streets

Aston Martin Lagonda

Costs £696,000
The ultra-exclusive Aston Martin Lagonda has been filmed on UK's public roads for the first time.

Only 200 units are programmed for production and now one of the first UK-spec cars with a RHD layout was spotted in London where it obviously caught the attention of the bystanders. It looks very imposing as it should be for a high-end 5.4-meter car that has resurrected the Lagonda nameplate after several decades of absence.

In United Kingdom it kicks off at a whopping £696,000 and all of the cars are hand-built in a facility where Aston Martin previously made the One-77. Those very few people who can afford the car will have access to numerous customization options available through the company's Q bespoke division, so it's safe to say each and every Lagonda will be unique.

It's being billed as the epitome of luxury, but let's not forget the 550 bhp V12 borrowed from the Rapide S grants the modern Lagonda with a 200 mph (322 km/h) top speed, so it still remains properly quick despite its sheer size and weight.

It should be mentioned the Lagonda was initially supposed to be a Middle East-only affair, but Aston Martin decided to expand availability to Continental Europe, United Kingdom and South Africa.

I have read some comments from motoring journalists who think this car is hideous.

The only part of it I think is hideous is its price, it is hideously expensive ...but it certainly makes a grand impression in that video.

I wonder how many they've sold so far.

Absolute correct. :)

Nope nope. I can confirm. It is hideous!

It's like a bad Chinese copy of some American Luxury Saloon wannabe (Cadillac, Lincoln etc.)

And to think I never thought I'd see an ugly Aston in my life...

While the interior is beautifully crafted and sculpted, that stitching is just a bit much.

That's a stupendously long car. Perfect if you want to occupy as much length as possible outside your favorite hotel.

Expect BMW's upcoming 9er to be something like that ... luxury sports sedan ... low, long, sleek. Incorporating characters of Lagonda, Panamera, Quattroporte etc. Audi is mulling over something similar with the proposed A9. I can also see MB possibly coming with "4dr S-coupe" as an answer to 9er & A9.
