Hmmm...That's quite nice. And while realizing that the upright and "squarish" C-pillar quotes the Lagonda in the backround, I cannot help but suspect that this car, with a sloping coupe-like C-pillar, would make an ideal Jaguar XJ successor.

Aston Martin Lagonda: the 2014 comeback revealed

Aston Martin Lagonda will be relaunched in 2014 - and this is our first glimpse of the new Lagonda super-saloon.

The new July 2014 issue of CAR magazine, out today, spills the details on the Lagonda relaunch. Click here for a free digital preview of the latest edition.

This artist's impression shows the anticipated direction of the Lagonda limo, based on the spy photos published by CAR in May 2014.

Our photographs captured a wedgy four-door saloon testing on the roads around Aston Martin's Gaydon HQ in Warwickshire, UK. The prototype was believed to use the running gear of the Rapide limo but clothed in composite body panels.

Aston Martin Lagonda: a special by Q
Aston Martin first mooted relaunching Lagonda back at the 2009 Geneva motor show, when it showed the controversial Lagonda SUV concept.

Five years on, CAR understands Aston is finally ready to make a formal launch this summer.

And instead of a lumbering 4x4, Aston is preparing this secret sports saloon, which will be built by Q branch, the company's personalisation department.

The Lagonda super-saloon: what we know
The new July 2014 issue of CAR magazine reveals the lowdown on what we know about the new Lagonda.

It is tipped to use the 600bhp 5.9-litre V12 seen elsewhere in the Aston firmament, mated to an upgraded eight-speed automatic transmission.

If Q department is responsible for the new Lagonda saloon, it seems certain that only lower volume production is likely. Fewer than 100 units are mooted.

Why is Aston Martin reviving Lagonda?
Aston Martin is talking to Daimler about collaborating on future projects. It has been busy trying to fill every niche possible with special editions and spin-off models, and Lagonda is a further brand extension allowing it to appeal to new clients and new territories. Limousines and SUVs suddenly sound quite achievable, capturing extra sales and revenue to build more breathing space to engineer the next generation of Aston Martins.

Aston Martin Abandons SUV Plans, Focuses On Coachbuilt Cars For Expansion

It looks increasingly likely that Aston Martin will sit out the race taking place between the high-end marques to launch luxurious SUVs, and instead focus

on coachbuilt cars for its expansion. Aston Martin’s Lagonda concept from 2009 showed that the automaker was seriously looking at launching an SUV at one point, but with the changing of the guard currently in the process at the automaker it seems plans have changed.

“That was a different time,” Aston Martin design boss Marek Reichman told Piston Heads when asked about the automaker’s plans for an SUV. “It was Ulrich’s [outgoing CEO Ulrich Bez] time. And now we’re in a very, very different time, with a different plan and with a different projection of what that brand [Lagonda] should become.”

Reichman said that Aston Martin is still committed to a Lagonda comeback, but that it won’t be a regular brand full of different vehicles

. He explained that Lagonda will be positioned as a “unique coachbuilt experience.”

Proof of this strategy is already underway, with a prototype for an Aston Martin sedan with some retro cues inspired by the original Aston Martin Lagonda sedan

spotted in the U.K. recently. Though based on the underpinnings of the Rapide, the new sedans will be highly customized and production is likely to be limited to well under 100 units.

^ Don't think it will be impacted, but so far have not yet decided if a GL Maybach is so desirable. Hopefully MB reveals the S 600 Maybach by the end of this year, so folks can decide if some of those features may be suitable for a SUV as well. Like the new M277 6.0 liter V12 producing about 530 hp, and four seats instead of the GL's standard seven, and not so sure if the wheelbase needs to be extended to accomodate them properly like in the S 600 Maybach. If the project does go ahead, the SUV might be badged GL 600 Maybach, and supposedly slot in above the GL 63 AMG. Then AMG can come back with a GL 65 AMG, maybe. :)

Aston Martin Lagonda teased, goes into production early next year
Will be offered exclusively in the Middle East
Aston Martin has released the first details about the Lagonda, ahead of its launch early next year.

Described as a "bespoke product" that will go into "strictly limited" production, the Lagonda is an extra-luxury sedan that rides on the VH platform and features carbon fiber body panels.

Aston Martin declined to release technical specifications but previous reports have suggested it will use a 6.0-liter V12 engine that produces approximately 600 bhp (447 kW).

The model will be offered for sale by "invitation only" and the asking price will be "commensurate with the car’s exclusivity, quality and luxurious nature." Unfortunately, it will be offered exclusively in the Middle East.

According to Aston Martin Design Director Marek Reichman, “The new model, like its exclusive siblings the One-77 and V12 Zagato, has been created as a piece of exceptional automotive art. It has been designed and developed entirely in keeping with the spirit and ethos of previous Lagonda super saloons – notably the William Towns Lagonda – and as a tribute to this car it proudly bears the Lagonda nameplate.”

Middle-East only: Talk about following money.

I don't blame Aston though. Bringing cars like the One-77 to life is a dream for designers and mechanics alike as concepts are usually watered down to be made more affordable. Thanks for the rise in wealth in the Middle East there is now a clientele for cars with little or no compromises. It's a very good era to be a car collector. Last time the car industry was opulent and topped with coach built cars was during the 1920s.

The Teaser is interesting. Will it be @Paris?

Its a similar idea ongoing with BMW in regards to a production version of the Vision Future Luxury.
It will be seen at Pebble Beach in August and the LA autoshow in November as BMW determine global feedback.
BMWs quest for the Vision Future Luxury the ideas pair with the Lagonda , especially in its feedback from the Middle East. Bespoke Built exclusively and sold exclusively is the next direction for the luxury car market. Some at BMW do not want the VFL sold through dealers but exclusively from the companies Individual division.
