Are some BMW wheels all they're "cracked" up to be?

As it is from Watchdog, I have very low hopes for a relevant coverage :D

The cracked rim problem only happens in the UK, apparently due to pot holes. The cracked rim articals can be found of a lot of forums, I only saw it from watchdog. I'd just like to see what Scott say's about it :D

I am of the opinion that runflat tyre characteristics has much to do with this. It's a hunch, nothing more.

As far as I'm concerned: run-flats - they're more trouble than they're worth.

As for BMW being to blame, that's hard to say as they don't manufacture their own wheels. Similiarly the same trouble afflicted Audis a while back, was it the B6 S4? Can't remember...

Ahh, that's right, thanks - wasn't the problem briefly reported in EVO? ... and also speedily rectified by Audi if I recall correctly?

Ahhh see Marcus. You were right. There is a reason why standard Benz alloys are usually so ugly! Function before form...engineered like no other indeed! :t-rot::t-rot:

Yes on both counts, although I seem to remember that quite a few owners went through more than one set of replacement wheels before they were happy.

BMW won't replace the wheels tho, owners have to pay to get new wheels them selves!
