Tough one, but how do you say no to those hips...

That's quite a predicament. Something about an old-school air-cooled Porsche that seems so right. It was around the time when the 997 came out did I make amends and accepted that water-cooled it is and is going to be well into the future. I am a sucker for the full-length light bar with "Porsche" written across it. But the new Cayman is just such a good car and new. Depends what you want...more old-school w/o all the nannies, or all the modern creature comforts w/ great performance.

Let me ask this, though, Porsches, in general, are pricey to maintain, how much would you be looking at per year for maintenance of a 993? That might be the ultimate decider for me...overall cost of ownership.

BTW, love the color on both those cars.

Not sure about the maintenance costs of the two compare, but if you look at the other part of ownership cost - depreciation, 993 will come far out on top. A new Cayman will depreciate heavily, while the 993 especially the wide bodied ones as long as you maintain it well and don't pile on the miles is an appreciating asset.

In the end, it depends on what you are looking for, for your only car to be used as daily driver, Cayman is the better choice. But for a weekend toy/garage queen, I would go with 993.

Yes, so this poll is about what? A weekend car to play with or a daily driver poll?

993 because when talking about rear-engined 911s, the older, the better. (996 excluded)

;)

In bizarro world ;)

Cayman S by a country mile. Heck, with PDK! Just look at it, it's like a baby supercar and it drives beautifully. I was utterly stunned by how well judged the ride/handling trade-off was when I drove it two weekends ago. The perfect weekend thrill fix.

Or for a person with difference preferences?

I don't expect people to change their taste to suit mine, but it can't be that hard to understand what's so likeable in a proper, mechanical connection between what you touch and what that controls, as well as a challenging drive. I much prefer a rear engined 993 that could potentially kill me, over any other all new Porsche model with bluetooth connectivity and a properly working iPod interface - provided I have a different every day car.

At this age, I am still willing to refuse most modern-day amenities in favor of a car that will get me work hard to enjoy it. I don't know if I'll say the same in 5 or 10 years from now, but at this time point, I find most modern cars on sale now, to be more civilized than I can handle.

I'm a 930 guy. Design wise the 993 is like a bridge between modern and old school... I don't like bridges that much.
It should be either old school or modern for me. BUT this particular 993 has my dream color on it and is as mint as it gets...
I simply adore it. I do love the new Cayman S... the rims, the color... it's perfect!
If I should be completely honest I'd go with both cars as they look too good side by side to simply drive away with one.

While the 993 Carrera may arguably be the far more "charismatic" automobile, the Cayman S is the better car.

Cayman S for me as an every day driver.
