Up until recently, two were the most iconic models, each generation of which was eagerly and even passionately awaited by the whole automotive community, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the BMW 3 series. Now, we are tempted to say that it's actually two and a half models, even though BMW wants us to believe the number has risen to three. The reason is the coupe version of the iconic 3 series will, from now on, be called 4 series, as is extensively communicated the last few months. What is most important, though, is the fact that it will be officially unveiled in 6 days, on June 14.
What do we know so far? Well, pretty much everything, as we've seen the exterior for almost three months, as our spy photographers caught an undisguised prototype on March 22 (link), leaving very little to our imagination. As far as the interior is concerned, if the 4 series stick to the tradition of the first 5 generations, then the coupe will not be different from its sedan brother from the inside. Regarding the engines, no surprises are expected, yet one could argue that it's can't be called a surprise if it's expected. In any case, a 435i and 428i will be available from the beginning, the former with the single turbo 3.0l 6-cylinder N55 engine and 300hp, and the latter with a single turbo 2.0l 4 cylinder N20 engine and 245hp.
Recent spy photos suggest that the equipment lines trend will continue with the 4 series coupe, but we have yet to see how the M-Sport line will look like. We hope for more information to be made available soon, even though the 4 series will be official in just 6 days.
