e-tron GT Is Audi Sport actually teasing the eTron GT concept ?

The Audi e-tron GT is a battery electric executive car produced by Audi since late 2020 as part of the e-tron battery electric sub-brand, and the third fully electric car model, after Q8 e-tron and Q8 e-tron Sportback SUVs. It is also Audi's first full-sized electric sedan, and the RS e-tron GT, put on the market in 2021 is, in terms of 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) times, the fastest Audi sedan to date. Based on the J1 platform shared with the Porsche Taycan, the car went on sale in March 2021.

The image appears to present a longer, far less snub-nosed hood than the R8. And the creases on the front fender crests resemble those of the "official" Audi AG eTron GT illustration. And wouldn't an eTron GT rain a bit on the Mercedes-AMG GT 4 door liftback and BMWs' 8 series parade ? Allegedly scheduled for a 2018 L.A. Motor Show presentation in concept form, an earlier glimpse could throw fox-ish Audi into the chicken coop.

Audi Sport Teases… Some Kind Of R8?

Mysterious Audi R8 Teased For 2018 Paris Auto Show

Audi has something new in store for the 2018 Paris Auto Show, a mysterious R8 that will debut next Tuesday, but what is it?

Based on the teaser pic dropped by Audi Sport on social media, it’s clearly an R8, given the headlight signature, wide stance and four rings logo that sit on the front hood instead of the grille.

Look closely at the image and you’ll notice a couple of air vents on the hood, which have something very LMS-ish in their design. So, is this an indication that Audi is perhaps readying a different derivative of their racer? It could be, but until we have official confirmation, we cannot be certain if this is the case.

Besides the rumored R8 racer, Audi is also working on a facelifted version of the second generation R8. Prototypes of the car were seen in motion testing in different parts of Germany these past few months, with vinyl stickers covering most of their front and rear ends, as well as the lower profile. The camouflage suggests that this is where Audi has concentrated the visual updates that will put some distance between it and the current models.

Some upgrades will be made under the skin, too, with a rumored GT version expected with as much power as the Lamborghini Huracan Performante. The naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine makes 640 PS (631 hp / 470 kW) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque in the Italian supercar, and only 30 PS (30 hp / 22 kW) and 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) of torque in the R8 V10 Plus. So, it would make sense to give it the extra muscle that might drop its 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint time to around 3.0 seconds.

...so it's an R8 derivative after all.

I eagerly await the L.A. Motor Show **sigh**.

The Audi E-tron GT four-door electric sports car, due in 2020, will have a similar range to the new E-tron SUV but be “focused more towards power”, according to the firm’s powertrain boss.

The E-tron SUV offers a 248-mile range measured on the new WLTP test and Siegfried Pint told Autocar the GT will achieve a similar range. But he added that the vehicle will be “steered towards performance”. In the most powerful boost mode, the E-tron has a claimed 0-60mph time of 5.5sec, with a top speed of 124mph. By comparison, the rival Tesla Model S P100D has a 0-62mph time of 4.3sec and a 155mph top speed. It is understood that Audi will endeavour to make the E-tron GT beat those figures.

The E-tron GT, set to be previewed in concept form at the Los Angeles motor show in November, will be built on the same J1 platform as the Porsche Taycan EV that will be launched next year.

Audi technical development boss Ulrich Widmann said the E-tron GT will “get some genes from Porsche and add a lot of Audi genes”.

The E-tron GT will be the first electric model in the E-tron range to get a ‘flat-floor solution’ rather than the ‘high-floor solutions’ seen in the E-tron and upcoming E-tron Sportback, Widmann said.

The model will also be the first Audi EV to allow for 350kW fast charging, according to product manager Johannes Eckstein. That means it will be capable of charging to 80% in under 12 minutes.

Audi first confirmed plans for the electric four-door car in March – two years after Autocar had scooped the model – at the company’s annual press conference.

Audi has also described the upcoming four-door as “highly dynamic” and said it showed the direction of the company’s performance division.

The E-tron GT will be produced at the firm’s Neckarsulm factory in Germany. It is one of 10 Audi electric models that are due before 2025.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
