911 (997) AMS: Porsche 997 GT2 Short Drive

The Porsche 997 is the sixth generation of the Porsche 911 sports car manufactured and sold by the German automobile manufacturer Porsche. It was sold between 2004 (for the 2005 model year) and 2013.

AMS tested the 997 GT2. They loved it. They especially remarked how the lack of AWD (less weight) and 50 extra horsepower make this car really fast and a superb handler. The suspension is a lightly modified and comes from the GT3.

They measured 11.2 seconds from 0-200 km/h and a top speed of 329 km/h. No other data was given. They praised the turbo because at high speed it still offers a lot of boost (most turbo's don't apparently).

That's basically the good stuff right there. Short to the point review. Check out the pictures. :t-cheers:

The Scans

Fantastic car this is. As far as I'm concerned, this GT2 essentially represents the embodiment of the 911 over the past fifty some years. It's most everything that a 911 stands for: precise engineering; quirky driving experience; amazing traction and superb handling; usabilty (well, more than the 996 and 993 versions) as well as a general styling theme which is purely Porsche.

And with that being said, I can completely understand if someone feels the GT2 is lacking in imagination, especially when compared with such vehicles as the Scuderia and Superleggera. The GT2, despite being at the heap of the 911 line-up, looks quite conservative when compared to it's many rivals. But hey, its a 911 and I wouldn't have it any other way. :wthumb:

Additionally, if you want a 911 with a little more "flair", one could always go with the GT3 RS.

Thanks for the scans Chris.

Nevertheless, they add at the end of the short test:

"People, who don't only search for top speed or track times, but also want to get some Emotion, those people will still fall in love with the GT3! He revs higher and the reaction of the accelerator is thrilling and much better to dose. In addition to that, the engine of the GT3 sounds more beautiful..."

Thanks for the scans, Christian!
My absolute favorite supercar...:icondrool:bowdown:
Can't wait for the tests...:usa7uh:

That 0-300 km/h time (33 s) should be true. But who did it? Factory or AutoBild? However can wait for the 2008 Nardo High Speed Test :D:D:D They will test it, surely

Thanks for the repost :usa7uh: ! I fact, I have a problem with my browser on one of my PCs which prevents me from correct viewing of some pictures. :t-banghea

Nope. They should still work.

In any event, I've reuploaded them to Shareavenue. Hope you'll be able to view them.

P.S. - Welcome to the forum. :t-cheers:
