You definitely drive one of the most rare cars in the US then!! :D Probably a Maybach has better sale numbers, then this car…

Thats why they're not making it anymore! They discontinued it a long time ago, close to when they started it! :o

I have a theory on why the SL sold so many in 2003. When Michael Jordan was fired by the Wizards, he was pissed off and flew out of the MCI Center in his SL55. This video was carried by the AP and hence most TV stations around the country for days. The free publicity for the car by a HUGE celebrity certainly had something to do with those figures .. and if it had an impression on me, I'm sure most prospective SL buyers took note as well.

Surprised at how crappy the numbers for the C is, especially after the first year of a new model - probably a fraction of M3. Also surprised at how well the G55 does - wouldn't be surprised if majority of the G sold are AMG versions.

Actually the 2003 SL went on sale in March/April 2002 so the 2003 model year was extra long in the U.S. hence the big sales numbers. 2004, 2005 etc. were regular length model year. MJ had nothing to do with it. Mercedes would wish it did.

M

Not exactly. The E 55 has sold more according to that list:

Opsss... my bad, I missed the E-Class's numbers! Interesting thing is, just 123 units were sold over Sl's figure! :eusa_thin

Anyway, being an expensive coupe... holding 2nd place (by an unusual margin) is an excellent mark! :t-cheers:

Your argument assumes the AMG version is released simultaneously with the regular versions.

Not at the same time, but before fall of 2002 which would be the regular time for a 2003 model to be introduced. Trust me Micheal Jordan had nothing to do with SL55 sales. MJ is in a Hanes commercial now driving a DB9 Volante, but I seriously doubt the rich are going to run out and start buying them any faster they they already are (or aren't right now).

If one of you can prove that June 2003 did not have the highest month of sales, I'll concede the point. :D
J/K ... Thanks Guys!

Awesome, Aweasome Post......The catalyst for AMG Seems to have been the C32 AMG....the car that set AMG on fire....:eusa_clap
