AMG declares the horsepower war ‘over’

Unfortunately, they are right. Now the days of high HP are over, at least in the US. But the good thing is that the companies will have to invest money in driving dynamics much more than "just put a big ass engine in it" mentality. In this case, I believe BMW, Porsche and Honda has a head start.

This suck but I had to delete some posts since it wasnt relevant to this topic " AMG declares the horsepower war ‘over’".

Wrong section and offtopic.

Ok, guys unless you missed it this isnt internal combustion section. The thread is about Mercedes leaving horsepower war. Not another BMW vs MB thread ;)

CC, let's not turn this thread into mess, please.

That vs. thing must finish right now or i'm closing this thread.

OK?

Thank you!

Gentlemen,

I hate to say this but the title of the thread implicitly insinuates the AMG vs M vs RS HP debate.
War involves conflict between two or more parties; so technically it will draw the other two big Germans(Audi and BMW) into the debate.
So if AMG declares the "war" over, people will naturally discuss about the other combatants(M division and RS division) and their response.

Key phrase.... ie when our competitors begin to match or better our figures we will again raise the bar.

I lol'd

...'begin to match our figures...' :eusa_clap

What do they have at Benz that is so special then? That freaking ancient bi-turbo V12? Like it's hard for BMW or Audi to do the same! LOL!

AMG have much more competitors than M & RS only, that's why we don't want this to be vs of the German trio.

If I posted this in internal combustion it would be alright.
Although I can move this thread to internal combustion if people need to get something off their chest in the HP war debate. :eusa_thin but do we really need another BMW vs MB debate becuse be honest that is what this thread would only be about? :sleep1zh:

Mercedes can't and won't beat the Veyron the in the coming 5 years.

Are you kidding me??? Why on EARTH do you think they couldn't????
5 years is a freaking long time to develop a car. Mecedes can have a 1500 hp supercar in 5 years if they want.
Veyron is not something holy you know. It's made by VW engineers and a sh!tload of money.

They COULD but Won't. Lot's of companies COULD but won't. ;)

Trust me, very few manufacturer can and even have the balls to develop a monster faster than the Veyron. The first challange is off course the engine itself then you need a car capable of handling all that power and getting it to the ground(that includes state of the art tires, transmission and aerodynamics) and lastly the manufacturer would have to deal with cooling and making sure that the car is as reliable as a Toyota Corolla. It's a very big challenge and we all know how much time it took VAG to finally get the Veyron into the dealerships. It's not a matter "can" but rather a matter of "will".

Come on now. That is the only thing I talk about on this forum.
Or am I supposed to discuss and compare the power of AMG with a Nissan and Caddy in this thread?

I agree, it is crazy reading all these this vs that debate, but this thread if not reined upon has the making of becoming that which you dread.

Well, if people obey and accept the fact that this wasnt posted in Int. comb. then I have nothing to fear, do I ;)
I was first to post this in MB section, if someone else posted this in Int. comb before me then it would be free to argue B vs M vs A. I would then leave it alone.
Only way to argue is if I move this to Int. comb....do you wanna?

Anyway back on topic, the power war will be over when the chassis engineers say the car can no longer safely contain and handle the power. The ever increasing power output has been complemented with the ever improving chassis design and electronic driving aid, so both groups of designers and engineers are giving their best, and it is all part of evolution I guess.

A car can always be improved and cope with power. But can the drivers?
Its not cars that kill, its the person behind the wheel.

True, so are you saying the power war should really be depending on the skill of the owners? But then again, modern cars with massively powerful engines are relatively easy to handle, I saw a grandmother driving a E55 AMG, and an extremely old man driving in an RS4. I am not sure what point am I trying to make, I am just typing down my thoughts.

I wish the Carmakers offer driving schools and giving lessons for free with a pro-driver to show you how to drive and master a powerful car.

Mercedes Australia has started to offer advance driving trainning days for its customers, it is for free but the numbers are extremely limited.

Yeah right, Andreas...:t-crazy2: I wonder how come you didn't came with idea that they should also: pay a dinner, buy you some clothes, give you 3 or 4 another cars you can practice with, etc...:t-hands:

Dude, please... They're selling their cars in thousands, are you aware of that? What? They should also have driving school and professional drivers for all those daddy's bitches that just graduated and got Z4 M or an M3 as a present??? Is that what you're trying to say? Please...
