The E34 M5 is amazing.

They all are :D

What a stunning piece of car. They don't make them like this anymore, and my God does it age well or what? It's design is getting better and better over time!

Such fond memories of this car. My family owned a couple. First a sedan, and after that a facelifted Touring (with the back then never before seen gigantic sunroof that would open up in the back too).

Agreed. Its just that the E34 M5 was the first M5 that struck a chord with me and it has aspecial place in my heart. I know it sounds cheesy. :)

Rare 1993 BMW M5 “20 Jahre Motorsport Edition” is Awesome

Probably the least-liked M5 in the model’s history is the E34-generation car. It never had the quick reflexes of its E28-gen predecessor, nor the near-perfect balance of its E39 successor. Its later 3.8 liter I6 engine was good but not superb, like the rest of the M5 engines and it wasn’t very exciting looking. However, back in 1992, BMW developed a special edition of the M5 to honor the 20th anniversary of BMW’s Motorsport Division — the BMW E34 M5 “20 Jahre Motorsport Edition”.

Only 20 models were built by BMW in late 1992, sold as 1993 models, and all of which were painted in Mugello Red and had the newer 3.8 liter I6 engine. From the outside, there isn’t much to distinguish the M5 20 Jahre from the standard M5, but a close look will reveal some nice touches, such as M-Technic wing mirrors, M System two wheels with a black finish, shadowline trim and black painted lower aerodynamic body panels.

Inside, though, grey Recaro RS sport seats, with special M-designed cloth and anthracite suede side bolsters, welcome passengers. Suede also covers the steering wheel, shift knob, shift boot and parking brake boot. There are also red seatbelts with “BMW Motorsport” written on them and carbon fiber interior trim, with a hint of red. While the outside is pretty unassuming, the inside looks superb.

It isn’t any more powerful than the standard car, as no power upgrades were made, but it might be a tick faster and more fun to drive, as the suede interior will make it more lightweight than the leather, albeit only a bit. So if there was any performance upgrade, it was likely minimal.

Overall, though, this is one of the cooler BMWs of the ’90s and probably the best looking and coolest variant of the E34 M5. While the E34 M5 isn’t the most popular M5 of all time, and probably-under appreciated, this E34 BMW M5 20 Jahre Motorsport Edition is extremely cool.
