Advert Wars: BMW 1, Audi 0

Audi are quite happy to mention BMW in their European press releases though. Audi says it will soon overtake BMW, Mercedes in Europe - Worldnews.com

Actually in the original press release the rivals were not mentioned directly by names.

None of the German carmaker names its rival directly by name in the press releases - usually only describing & referring rival's (eg. brand, product or sales) characteristics - so most of the readers instantly get idea who are they talking about. :D

But no direct name mentioning ...

Really, I never knew that. I have seen Audi and BMW mention each others products by name in their brochures? I saw an M3 brochure that had a full comparison against the RS4, C63 and 911.

Official???? LOL, what makes them official?

Anyways, Audi would never ever mention BMW in it's commercials here in the most of Europe. Definitely not in Holland.

meaning they weren't taken with a phone camera. I received them directly from the ad agency responsible for this.

What I meant really was, in higher-quality :)

Way to jump all over us :)))

Only in America. :eusa_doh:

This type of advertising is not legal in Germany.

I would like to know if BMW and Audi arranged it between them selves or did Audi put that sign up then BMW saw it and put theres up?

It could be a joint media strategy but I doubt it. It is much more likely that the Audi advert was placed first.

Doesn't need to be, pranks like these happen all the time in the US. Microsoft have been running a campaign where they install big booths or adverts inside malls, right outside Apple Stores. Them and Apple have been throwing water filled balloons at the each other for the last 18 months or so.

Lol nice Ownage:D

PS
I wonder if MB has done something like this..
It doesent look like their style..
They have more of that arrogant aura..like yeah we dont care, cause we rule shit, without the need to say it:D

I'm so glad MB is out of all this crap,MB image really doesn't need that.:)

It's sad that this type of advertising is not legal in many european countries. This type of competition brings out creativeness, but you must control the urge to appear bitter.

BTW, from my experience in Dealership Marketing, this is quite funny. The Ad for AUDI seems to be by AUDI USA but the BMW Ad seems to be by Santa Monica BMW's marketing dept. Santa Monica BMW spent a part of their Budget not only to advertise for themselves but also to upstage their competition. I know we've taken shots like this against the competition ourselves with our allotment of the marketing budget when I worked for BMW Motorrad dealer. :D

I am not doing that at all :) I just think it's funny everyone has an 'official' version of everything on the Internet...

As for that BMW M3 brochure with the RS4 and other rivals mentioned; that's not for consumer eyes, but dealers only. Just to have something to say when a customer starts about the competition, and why to buy an M3 over say a 911. They have to appear to know something, and those people selling cars are dumb as sh!t usually.

Looks like a customer version of the M3 brochure to me. See around page 40.

Thanks for the link, but I'm still not sure if that's meant for consumers..would imo be stupid to even mention to competition in a brochure for the consumer.

Audi strikes back!
