Press Release Actor Paul Walker dies in car crash

Clearly that gas line didn't explode, and if it did it wouldn't explain the mangled car at all.

The car is "mangled" because it hit a tree and a pole at high speed. Simple.

I was about to say the same thing. A gas line explosion would have combusted the car into dust and toasted the nearby tree too. Let's not forget that Ferraris catch fire just by cutting through air.

There is a picture of his smashed face spreading around the net now... I don't wanna post it here. But what I wonder is who was stupid enough to take that picture, and put it out there... Where is the respect for the families...

^I'm sure the accident investigators will be able to determine what roughly happened, though I do know how little damage was done to a Boxster that hit five concrete posts between 50-60mph so I'm guessing the speed involved here must have been significantly higher.

Still shocked a car designed with seriously high speeds in mind that its structure doesn't stand up better.

Heard about this late last night. Very sorry to hear about Paul Walker's death. He was a good actor. My thoughts and prayers go out to his daughter and family.

I am not blaming anyone. Just merely pointing out the plausibility of this yet being another lawsuit headed Porsche's way. The driver might be to blame, but he was no less than a professional racing car driver.

Porsche has been taken to court previously over safety issues with the Carrera GT and they lost. Porsche paid millions according to the court order in punitive damages with Porsche engineer having to testify in court answering questions about Carrera GT's ability to handle extreme limits. The fact that the car exploded in this particular case upon impact makes matters even worse for Porsche.

It is how things work in the US of A. Like it or not.

Porsche are not to blame. Regardless of which car it is, hitting a tree or a pole is one of the most lethal causes of road related deaths. In this case, the Carrera GT hit both. It's enough with the pole to weaken carbon fiber sub-frame for the engine, to then expose the fuel tank and engine to slam into the tree and ignite a flame. You can tell from the photos of the wreckage that it was a high speed accident. It's not a car I would have the guts to drive fast. It's very old school and doesn't bail you out when you're on the verge of losing control.

People don't seem to appreciate the meaning of speed. What's the speed limit on that public road? 35 mph? 55mph? Even at the higher end of the aforementioned speed limits, the damage to any car would surprise you - particularly if it got t-boned by a tree and a lamppost. Every 10 mph above this compounded; momentum does equal mass x velocity of course.

I read the Keaton / Rudl lawsuit and I am astounded at the litigious propensity of US society. Mrs Rudl sued Porsche and got 360k out-of-court settlement because the car had no stability control program. Preposterous all the same but ultimately contestable in court. In this case it will be proven beyond any doubt that had the Porsche been driven within the speed limit on public roads then the accident would not have occurred.

Two peoples lives have been lost here, my sentiments go out to their loved ones left behind in the wake of this tragedy, but nothing can change the fact that (in the greatest likelihood) reckless and negligent driving was the cause of this accident. Not the handling characteristics of the Porsche Carrera GT.

I have been so distraught, as I often am when hearing of someone's passing. It drives home the sad truth that we wake up each and every day with no guarantee that we will live through it to fall asleep again. My thoughts go to his daughter, who will from now on grow up missing her father. The world seems to also have lost someone who made it a better place.

He posted this last week while on the set of FF7

He now is an instant legend and he died doing what he loved most.

It's sad for the ones he leaves behind, but not that much for him. The man had a fantastic life. Short but intense, rich and in good health. I doubt he ever knew what happened. Instant death.

Not mentioned yet, but Paul Walker used to race in a redline time attack Gintani supercharged E92 M3. He also used to have an R35 Nissan GTR, but he sold it explaining in an interview that he got bored with it.

According to a TMZ report citing unnamed sources at Always Evolving — the auto shop Walker and Rodas owned where the vehicle was stored and maintained — the crash may have happened as a result of mechanical failure. The sources cited a fluid trail, noticeable absence of skid marks until just before the point of impact, and the fact that the fire spread so quickly in the front of the car rather than in the rear where the engine is, as evidence to back up that theory.
"We are saddened to hear of this tragic accident," a rep for Porsche tells omg!. "Of course, we will cooperate fully with the authorities on any post-accident investigation." Again, investigators are looking into all possible causes
