Strong competition in the own house.
- X1 weigh 70 kg more than 3er Touring and 7 centimeters shorter.
- 3er T more joy to drive and costs more.
- X1 cheaper extra equipment than 3er
- 3er T 0-100km/h in 8.1 sec and topspeed 228km/h
- 3er T just slightly faster around the corners but the suspension is more comfortable than X1

- X1 0-100km/h in 8.4 seconds. Topspeed limited to 205 km/h.
- X1 have all the BMW genes.
-You sit 3 centimeters higher in X1 than the 3er T

Winner: X1

Tough choice.... the cars are very similar in almost every aspect...

I'll go with the newer X1

:t-cheers:

Thanx Just Me :t-cheers:
Apart from a small perceived quality problem the X1 looks to be the better choice and better value...so X1 it is!:usa7uh:

Hmm...Sorry the 3 wagon looks horrible next to the Beautiful, Sophisticated and Luxurious X1.

The X1 is hot!

I'd opt for the X1 in this duo. Slightly higher seating position, an improvement over the already-attractive (but old) 3er interior...and the overall shape and exterior design of the X1.

It looks great in white! Love this new X1!

X1 for me too! Fresh vehicle & much more promising & capable to go beyond the road! Looks better than a station-wagon too! :usa7uh:

I'd go for the 320d. More fuel efficient, better to drive, nicer interior...

No need for an X1 in my life.

:jpshakehe Martinbo, I thought for sure you would have gone for the x1. Just look at it. It's the perfect "lil" BMW. Nice big "IN YO FACE" nose, with sufficient grown clearance and better road visibility.

Heh heh - sorry to disappoint.

I promise it was a difficult decision and I really do like the X1 for what it is. That said, the xDrive and the raised ground clearance don't really add any tangible usefulness for my needs in a soft-roader. Which do I think looks better? The X1 really does look quite crisp and modern - I have to say.

So, I opted for a 3er which is at least a top-of-its-class choice and very good at being what it is.

Not that I'd ever buy a 320d Touring either for that matter! ;)

I see why guys are complaining about the quality of console between seats, but personally I don't thinks it's all that bad.

The 3er definitely. The X1 is nice but it's still a "1er". 3 Series Touring which is now perfect after the facelift is the more mature product. It most likely offers more sportiness and comfort + looks more balanced and less radical. :usa7uh: (And doesn't have that awkward hood cut line :D)

How about a lil' sum'en inbetween... :D

Chris, have a look at this photo and you'll see that the X1 is fairly similar in size to the current X3 when both of these are compared to the 3er Touring. I think the guy in the photo is tall, but, you gotta remember that the X1 does sit unusually low for a 4WD/SAV/SUV, so I think that plays a part in making the X1 look like a 1:2 scale model in that particular photo.

It's clear that the SUVs aren't dead given that the well read GCF crowd favour a macho 1er SUV over a very competent 3-series.

Interesting...care to explain?

Sure thing. On the whole, I don't like diesels. I'd much rather a 325i Touring. Glorious, incomparable engine character to the 4 pot box o' spanners.

If it were a 330d Touring - ah different story, as this is the very nicest diesel engine I've ever experienced in any car. Ultra smooth, peppy - even sporty perhaps and sounds fantastic.
