R8 8:09 Record time for R8 e-tron

The Audi R8 is a mid-engine, 2-seater sports car, which uses Audi's trademark quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. It was introduced by the German car manufacturer Audi AG in 2006. Production ended in the first quarter of 2024. Production: June 2006 – March 2024 (45,949 Units), Model years: 2007–2024
Yes, it's not, it's just an affordable hot hatch with a two litre engine, and it's faster than an electric sports car ;)
So, you say that it does 0-100 km/h faster then 4,8 seconds, and does the Ring under 8.09 mins...?

I don't care about 0-100, but 8.07.97 is faster than 8.09 and the Megane only costs a fraction of what the R8 e-tron would cost should it be offered for sale ;)

But still it isn't an electric car and can not boast zero CO2 emissions.

It's just an argument, for God's sake. What Levi and I are trying to say, is that the time around the Ring itself isn't that impressive, as a french hot-hatch is faster than that. Sure, it's not strictly a 2 seater, it's not as aerodynamic as the e-tron, it doesn't have 4 rings on the hood, it isn't zero emission and a lot of staff like that, but it's a french hatch and it's faster than Audi's electric sportscar. It's just an argument!

Go-kart with GSXR1000 engine it's faster than that french hatch. It's just an argument...

You really don't get it. I am not "Audi-Hating", I am just saying it in general, that tech is not enough good for an electric sportscar, be it an Audi R8 E-Tron or a Mercedes SLS AMG E-Cell, though we don't know anything about the later one yet. If it was a BMW I'd say the same, but BMW's answer to this a not an "electrified" car, but something built from zero wit honly one thing in mind. Now, for the battle fans, the BMW i8 should be faster on the Ring than this Audi R8 E-Tron, but even if it won't, it will have more many other argumetns in its favor, like 4 seats, higher range and low consumption, low CO2 emissions, more exclusivity,... and I can go on. In other words this E-Tron has failed. It is just marketing to show Audi is doing something, but the result is not yet there.

argumetns in its favor, like 4 seats, higher range and low consumption, low CO2 emissions, more exclusivity

Only 4 seats (which in the end are not even sitting...) is just true argument, the rest is in favor of e-tron. "higher" range on electric motors i8- 35 km// R8 e-tron- 200+ km. "Low consumption" i8- 3l/100 km // R8- 0. "Low CO2 emissions" i8- 95g/km // R8- 0. More exclusivity is fully electric sports car, than sports car with 1.5 l 3 cylinder engine...

And yes, you just don't get it.

Please do me a favour and look at the R8 e-tron not as an Audi, but as a brandless electric sportscar. Is what this "package" offers to be classified as an "electric sportscar"? Are the numbers it delivers (as in lap time around the ring) good enough for such a type of car?

Of course, has to start somewhere. Not always sports cars were turning times of less than 8 minutes on this track. This is just the beginning of this technology. 1995 Dodge Viper SRT-10 with 506 ps V10 engine did 8:13.00 so that's mean it isn't a sports car????

That's exactly how I look at it. It would matter if it was a SLK electric car or a Z8 electric car. For me, 8.09 on the ring is an AMAZING time that is as fast as the RS4 B7 or the M5 E60. So god damn YES, the numbers it delievers are more than good enough for an fully electric sportscar. I cant get it to my head how somebody would think different.

Find a car with a power to weight ratio at 180hp/tonne or less which does better time. C'mon.

"Low consumption" i8- 3l/100 km // R8- 0.
Ahem, that's wrong. Electric cars don't have zero emission as they gotta state the emissions it takes to produce the energy. It's a fairly complicated calculation and I don't even know if Audi has give any figures yet, but - again - it's not zero emission. BMW found out the hard way in the UK...

Best regards,
south

If you find those times good, then I can't say anything against it. It's certainly objective.

For me though, I'd prefer to see something under the 8 minutes mark. Then I would be seriously impressed!

:)

Just saying...

Hah :) Actually the N-Ring time of the production car will be around 8:30... :)
It's getting even more sporty ;) 8:30 is a forklift time doing N-Ring on reverse :D
On the other hand Audis are meant to be fast from 0 to 100 only... in that case they did a great job :)

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
