The Mercedes-Benz W221 is the fifth generation of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Predecessor: S-Class (W220). Successor: S-Class (W222). Production: 2005–2013.
The Mercedes-Benz C216 is the last generation grand tourer named CL-Class. Predecessor: CL-Class (C215). Successor: S-Class (C217). Production: 2005–2014.
I like the flashing brake lights in the panic stop. MB is the first to introduce this feature, look for others to follow.

Nothing really new here.

E.g. Citroen & Renault feature similar feature for quite a long time: in emergency braking the hazard lights (all 6 blinkers) turn on.

While BMW cars have Adaptive Brake Force Display: at hard braking greater red area of a rearlight cluster illuminates & with stronger light.
 
Hmmm, interesting. Something about the flashing red lights would get more attention I would think.
