Info from Scott26 in regards to 5 series "facelift" photos from CarSpyShots...

"The 5er's shown here are mainly test beds for BMW's upcoming powerplants such as the NG six cylinder turbo that will make it's debut first in the 335i Coupe (E92) this Winter.

It is a fantastic sounding engine , loud and overall very smooth the way it pulls the car is very impressive and the acceleration shows , no sign of any slugglishness it is seen as a stop gap until the M3 arrives which gets better, lighter and faster . The M3 will be more individual than the 335i you can be sure of that.

The larger intake is for better cooling , The inline six cylinder turbo will also find it's way into the 1er ,3er sedan,Touring and Cabrio , Z4 Coupe and the 5er and eventually other models.

The 5er will get a facelift but will be similar to how BMW facelifted the E39 - Just a slight Tweak because of the M5."

No, but let me say this: sometimes Scott tells me much more than he does in his public posts.

He is smart enough not to blab 100% real information publicly.

Additionally I have some competent contacts at Slovenian BMW importer (ala BMW Slovenia). Yet the information I get here are not such a strategic nature.

Right on! Me and you both can say that BMW has a very very interesting and exciting future, probably more so than just about any other make. Glad to have you here Tine! :usa7uh:

Btw, BMW have finished shooting and filming of 3er Coupe recently.
The actions were taken in Madrid (Spain), Munich (Germany) and Glasgow (Scotland, UK).

BMW seem to favour Scotland's modern architecture very much. Especially Glasgow and its surroundings.

The following architectural object were chosen for the background:

M5 Touring:

Those are some really cool buildings, I especially that first picture, the car park.

this might be old but is it a fact that BMW will dump the 4series badge??

thats what I heard yes. Some people call Z4M for M4.

Anyway, scott and tines info is always intresting. I usually post it over at M5board.com

4-series badge has been dumped due to marketing reasons. It has something to do with

- too high expected marketing expenditures (launching derivative series will be too costy)
- a fear of "Rover-effect" - Rover used 4XXi labels; the same applies to 2-series which is still under consideration (the possibility that further E81 variants will be also badged 1-series is extremely high)
- 3-series is much more recognized and respected, especially M3; so no real need to rebadge coupe and cabrio

M4 is just internal BMW label of Z4 M Roadster - employees "invented" M4 designation to avoid using a complicated label ("tzaet feer M rod-star") in every day talk.

The 135i will go like a bomb, people should learn never to say BMW's don't have enough power, because BMW will deliver!

Yeh a 135 sounds like a rocket ship with wheels. Sweet!

Great info Tine! Thanks alot.
