Highest of High's review of BMW
First, I would like to say that I am in someway bias based on my loyalty to Benz, but I will try to describe my experience as accurate as possible.
I recently went to BMW’s Ultimate driving experience in Maryland at the FedEx field. They had every model available from the BMW 3 series coupe to the 7 series. I personally did the street drive. I only signed up for the X5 and 7 series, but the 3 series and 5 series were available while I was waiting.
3 series
First, I drove the new BMW 3 series. I had driven it before, but just around a lot. I took the car out and I can honestly say it was pretty good. It was very quick and handled very nicely. The interior was ok, but it could have been a little better. Even though the car handles nice, I really don’t believe it’s worth the hype and money. It offer a lot of potential, but I would really find it hard to pick this over the Mazda 3. It’s good, but not worth the price tag.
5 series
Second, I drove the new 5 series. I really enjoyed the driving experience. I drove very nice and handled well. The sound system was very nice and the power was just enough to keep me happy. I really had the exterior of this car though. I have always said that and the experience didn’t change my mind.
But I would purchase this over the E500 (I haven’t driven the E550 yet). It handled much better then the E-class even though I prefer the looks of the E-class better. I really could see purchasing a 550i in the near future after a redesign.
X5
Third, the new X5 I enjoyed this vehicle as well. The shifter was odd, but I figured it out pretty quickly. Pulling the shifter back to drive and forward to reverse is a little weird. The drive was very nice and the sunroof was huge. I really enjoyed the X5. When I drove the new M-class it was nice, but seemed heavier then the X5. The X5 felt a little lighter and quicker.
7 series
Fourth, the 7 series the car felt nice, but I wasn’t impressed. I’ve always liked the look of the 7 series, but it’s a little too complicated. Just trying to move the seat back I almost had a stroke. The drive was good, but I really would just save and get the 5 series. What did surprise me was how small it felt. I’ve driven Cadillac’s and Lincolns and they feel ten times bigger, but there in the same segment. Germans cars handle their weight very well.
Now out of all of the vehicles I tested the X5 and 5 series were the best and most enjoyable. I’m really thinking about getting the two.
