2027 Volvo EX60

Added to Calendar: 01-21-26

I love the elegant and understated design, this is not a car for attention-seeking people. And the Volvo interiors are just a so nice place to be, you get relaxed when getting in the car, sitting in the most comfortable seats in the business. I also like that they don’t use the tacky neon lights everywhere inside, instead you have elegant lights penetrating the wood panels, wonderful.

The dash is more bridge deck of cruise ship than a drivers car. I have never driven a car with a squircle. I wonder if that would annoy me.

The squircle is ok, it took me all of 5 minutes to get used to it in my iX's. The tesla yoke on the other hand is awful, it's just not for me.

I'm really looking forward to the EX60, after being disappointed by the iX3 and blown away by Mercedes ridiculous price for the GLC, which IMO was a nicer car to sit in an drive than the iX3, the Volvo could possibly be the sweet spot.

That said my friend just bought a Q6 Etron, apart from the range it's a really impressive car, the build quality is better than the iX3 and it's quiet, the boot is larger, it feels like it fills the gap between the iX3 and the iX and Audi have really good deals on them right now.

Am I the only one who feels nothing when I look at the EX60? It just feels.. meh

For me it's in the category of, "not bad looking but a bit m'eh". I much, much prefer the proportions of the V60, which to me is one of the best looking cars in its class.

That’s has always been Volvos Scandinavian ethos. I grew up in Sweden. During the 90s and 00s it would be frowned upon to show that you are financially in a better position than others.

Even buying a bmw, mercedes or Audi could result in your neighbour frowning at you. I kid you not when I saw that probably every 10th car perhaps was a V70. Even wealthy people drove it in order to not stand out.

This design ethos is not too dissimilar to the Golf. It's a very politically correct car to drive.

That’s interesting, I had the same feeling in Basle (Switzerland), I grew up in a better neighborhood, and even there people very often bought Volvos because of this.
Or they deliberately bought old Mercedes Benz and combined it with a current Golf.

It’s something people in Baden Württemberg ( home of Mercedes Benz and Porsche) do as well.

We had W123 and W126 not to stand out too much.

We started buying the crazier cars after moving to the lakelucerne.

Sweden is not a country where success is celebrated, unlike in the USA where your neighbour doing well is more likely to motivated to do better than despise you.

In Sweden, if you were financially doing well and wanted to indulge guilt free without raising eye brows. It would have been in a snow friendly Audi A6 allroad.

Geely have been super respectful of Volvo. They could easily have overhauled but didn’t. This is where polestar is useful. It allows geely to experiment with more daring design and sporty handling.

BMW, Audi and mercedes interiors are Las Vegas sensory overloads of screens, ambient lighting and glossy and materials. The EX cabin offers an escape from that.

Dare I say, I quite get that. An E2 Cayenne (MY2018 S E-Hybrid) has creeped into our garage lately. I don't dare to use it at all (and I hate it with passion). The wife, who is quite fond of massive SUVs, doesn't like the look she's getting, either.

Success isn't celebrated much in Norway either unless it's skiing or football, but over the past few years Norwegians have gone nuts over expensive EV SUV's.

Yes. Attitudes have changed in some countries over the past ten years. This include socialist China where there is social and governmental blessings to get wealthy, spend and show it off without guilt :)
