Freelander 2026 JLR Freelander 8

The Land Rover Freelander is a series of four-wheel-drive vehicles that was manufactured and marketed by Land Rover from 1997 to 2015. The second generation was sold from 2007 to 2015 in North America and the Middle East as the LR2 and in Europe as the Freelander 2. After a five-year hiatus, the two-door Freelanders were succeeded by the three-door versions of the Range Rover Evoque in 2011, and the five-door generation 2 was replaced by the Discovery Sport in 2015.

"Freelander 8" is reportedly the production name and there doesn't seem to be any Land Rover badge.

Absolutely gorgeous. It just screams Land Rover design. Authentically. Is this coming to the USA?

Makes sense to licence the name. There is no room for the freelancer in the jlr lineup.

Dumbest idea ever.
Just like DS, Cupra and all these other wannabe split off fake brands.

It's not going to work at all in the long run. We're on the verge of an onslaught of actual brands from China, and there's no place for 30 car brands in the EU at least. They were consolidating for a reason.
Why on earth would there be no room in the JLR line-up? You state something silly without any explanation.

As for the car itself.....gorgeous until your eyes arrive at everything after the C pillar. What an ugly mess with that whole rear section. Breaks the design completely for me.

There is the Evoque and Discovery Sport. The latter is now considered a "poor man's" choice as Defender has higher street creed.

For there to be room for a Freelander, it would need to be a watered to Discovery sport or Defender. This is not possible in 2026 when there are Chinese options that are affordable and really good.

In my opinion, it has two main objectives.
With at least five Chinese brands offering cheap copies of the Defender in Europe, the Freelander brand is a way to avoid losing the market share that Land Rover has created. It offers a budget version of its own car, attracting buyers who started looking at the "same product" from Geely with a similar price.

The other objective is within China, where ten or fifteen brands are cheaply copying them. There, in a strategy similar to Audi's with AUDI, it's also about not losing ground to unfair competition without diluting the Land Rover brand by lowering its price.

All this is under the assumption that this Freelander will be very cheap compared to everything else from LR.

Is Cupra not doing well in the Netherlands ? Over here in northwestern Germany, they've become quite popular. I'm even seeing more Tavascans lately. Plenty of Formentors as well.

Very interesting brand IMHO.

I wish it good luck against cars like these, especially as the Freelander is not an aspirational sub brand.

This looks so damn good.

If it would just be a japanese hardware and at least Evoque like interior quality I would def. purchase one.
I keep my fingers crossed that they make it reliable this time.

Looks awful in my opinion. Rear pillar and side glass is particularly messy. There’ll be no reason to go for one of these. The Chinese will own the lite “off-road tuff” SUV segment having plagiarised Land Rover to death.

Will they only dominate in the lite segment? This giant thing is nothing short of spectacular, from an unpronounceable brand I haven't even heard of from the China Auto Show.

That said, it's disgusting to see how they copy everything and mix things from 10 different cars into one, from the seat stitching of one to the headlights of another; it's a brothel.

Mercedes took this very seriously finally stopping chinese brands from stealing their designs. A very clever move I must admit.
