GT 4-Door Coupé (X290) 2026 AMG GT 4-Door Vision EV

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé (X290) is the first generation five-door variant of the AMG GT two-door sports car. Production: September 2018– Model years: 2019–
This car has many flaws. But making it ICE can save it.

Remember how people used to mock the 4dr GT in 2018 because it had more of an egg shape compared to it’s predecessor the CLS W218?

But it was still quite a successful car regardless. Why? Because ‘V8 go vroom’ & it was one of the fastest ICE 4-doors at the time.

Look at the specs on this thing ! :

it was a HALO car.

Another reason is because this car is EV only at the time where people are starting to be uninterested in EVs, Hence Taycan sales decline.

But i guess no one is willing to listen.
I mean I understand.
This thing will also be blisteringly fast with 1100ps, even if its 2450kg.
But you're right in that without a V8 its lacking the USP that most people paying $200,000 are looking for.

Again, if they price this aggressively at like $120-150k for the GT55, and $140-160k for the 63, it might shift some units. At $220k+ nobody will even give it a second look.

Thankfully these things will be super cheap in about few years. Expensive EV’s depreciate like a mf.

You know i get it that some people want EVs to be the future so quick & so fast…But the world is just not there yet. There’s just so many factors.

Firstly charging is not as quick & as refuelling. Even if some ‘advanced tech EVs’ can charge 10-80% in 12 minutes is still quite a lot innit? & That’s if the correct charger is even available💀. But You can do that in 2 minutes in an ICE.

Speaking of chargers being ‘available’… Most countries in the world don’t even have EV chargers at all. Well you might call them ‘3rd world’ countries or ‘Not the target market’, But think about this…These people are still potential customers. What if that person wants that particular EV, they like travelling long distances but there’s just a few charging stations around their city/state? Loss of a customer.

it’ll take BILLIONS of investment worldwide before EVs match ICE on reliability . 3000kw Chargers & 2000 Volts of charging speed is when EVs will get close to ICE cars.

Another problem is that EVs can’t keep their power at a certain battery percentage, That’s also a bummer. ICE cars will do maximum HP till the last drop of gas.

i also don’t understand this thing of downsizing engines & going EV only. Why not let people have a choice? Let them choose if they wanna go EV or not, don’t force them & end up losing customers:t-upside:.

Share your thoughts with me on this? Do i have a faulty vision maybe?

I like the GT 4-Door EV. The styling mimics its wild side and is a breakaway from its two-door counterpart. The only element I dislike is the rear taillights. Thay are incongruent and clash with the light bar that runs the full width of the rear. Mercedes AMG should have gone full stop and followed the IAA concept with a full lightbar with the Stardust motif. I modified this photo to mimic the idea.

The production GT EV rear is designed after the AMG One. Its been softened up a bit.

In my country, Germany, the transformation process has been (and continues to be) primarily obstructed by a.) infrastructural deficits due to many years of neglect. b.) year long gross procrastination regarding the implementation of digitalization. c.) the obsession to embrace ever more sprawling bureaucracies.

Hence, managing to get some crucial elements of the EV transformation process seemlessly intertwined is proving a difficult task. Although there are significant regional differences as well. In the region in which my wife and I reside, EV's appear to be increasingly embraced. An abundance of 300+kW chargers nearby, etc. Ever more ID.'s, EQ's, BMW "i"'s, Volvo BEVs appearing on local roads.

It's new, it's different and definitely attempt by AMG to differentiate themselves from Mercedes. Only complain I have is that the headlights are too conservative. Same applies to all Mercs currently imo. This car has a lot of concept car vibes and could have used concept-car-like headlights. Something like CLA Ev Concept would do brilliantly.

Can't stand all the self-proclaimed car designers on social media FIXING the design. Just stop, you don't what you are doing.

Found these pics on IG. White body with the lightbar design and new aero wheels looks really good. Cant stand black wheels on white cars. Also, can they get the premiere configurations right for once?

This car is probably the reason why, all 3 AMG EVs won’t sell very well.

They’re DOA because of their price compared to the Xiaomi.

I agree, regarding your thoughts about EVs.

However for most who aren’t driving long distances and who can charge at home, EVs are very practical grocery getters.

Especially small cars can be build very nimble and agile, compared to the usual 3 or 4 banger the EV drivetrain is extremely smooth.

But as @Mick Briesgau said, they’re not very exciting at all, even with 3000hp.

Regarding the infrastructure, I agree but there’s another problem, I guess they underestimated the costs of the servicing of the fast chargers, If they reduce the servicing, the reliability drops significantly.

There’s another thing, you only get the perfect charging speed If you precondition the battery and you start charging as empty as possible.

If range and weight weren’t an issue, I’d actually choose the AMG EV or Taycan over their ICE counterparts for a road trip or mountain drive.

Yes, V8s add drama because of the sound, but that excitement only lasts for a short while. Beyond the noise, the EVs are better in many other areas.

This isn't a good enough reason to just give up though.
That's the coward's way out, and is tantamount to just giving the entire EV market to China.

I swear, some of you live in an alternate reality where oil never runs out and isn't subject to geopolitical f#ckery.

The ship has sailed long time ago.

Same as the Chinese market btw.
