GT 4-Door Coupé (X290) 2026 AMG GT 4-Door Vision EV

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé (X290) is the first generation five-door variant of the AMG GT two-door sports car. Production: September 2018– Model years: 2019–
The problem are the Chinese EV hyper cars and saloons.

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra shows what’s possible today.

And it costs about 70k€. So it’s very cheap compared to Porsche or AMG.

We‘ll know the price of the GT63 in a few days, but it’ll be most probably about 3-4 times as expensive.

The question everybody will ask, is why?

The SU7 is about the same size, but even more powerful, 10-80% takes the same 11min.

Is the AMG really 3 or 4 times better.

That’s the problem.

At which point why would you buy any expensive car?
A ZR1X is faster and more powerful than any Ferrari, but 1/4 the price.

I was initially indifferent to the rear, but I just don't like it. The front makes the car look confused. Aggressive, it is not, nor is it elegant or understated. I legit hate the giant 3-pointed star headlights. Might as well be any Chinese EV maker that has the Merc star slapped all over it. I'd get a used AMG GT 63 4-door.

Emotions, that’s the main reason for me personally.

For other people prestige might be important as well.

In your example, the Corvette is already very emotional, but a Ferrari is prestige, it’s very expensive, and people know it.

I agree, I prefer the predecessor as well.

Frankly, the only thing I don't like is the front light bar connecting the headlights. It gives me vibes of the brutally ugly CLA EV. Other than that, this car is a hit with me. I am utterly surprised at the overwhelmingly negative reception this car is getting.
it’s because it’s because it’s predecessor had a V8, this doesn’t.

True. You know if this car had a 700hp Mild-Hybrid V8 people would treat it differently? They would grow to love it & ignore the fact that it’s ugly & try improve it.

(i.e BMW G8x Cars)🫣

Of course they would, it’d be also 300-400kg lighter.

That’s a different animal.

Some Chinese EVs look better. I am getting an Avatr 06T once I get last year's bonus.

coz it's uglier?
Did anybody notice that this car‘s got worse comments than the C63SE under every YouTube video.

It’s probably the newly presented car with worst comments in 26.

95% are negative, it’s imho not a surprise TBH.

Except for some executives in Affalterbach.

Well...If it is the intention of M-B/AMG designers to stir up controversy and spirited debate...Mission Accomplished. I have no clue whatsoever whether I will ever see one of these cars with "private, non-business/non dealer demonstrator" registration on German roads. That probably doesn't matter anyway. California, Monaco, "posh" London districts, Zürich and the UAE will be far more significant target markets.

It will be very interesting to see how the price develops in the used market. If this goes down the way of Taycan and e-Tron GT, then it might make a very compelling case when it is 2-3 years old. Unless they artificially start restricting supply, which could be the case.

This AMG GT EV reminds me of when BMW launched the G80 M3 with the beaver grill. At first its grill caused huge outcry on the net, and everyone hated the grill and all kinds of negative comments were flooding the internet but now people think the M3 looks good with that big aggressive grill. This probably needs to be seen in the flesh to fully gauge the front and rear end effectiveness of stirring the emotions. We will have to see what the motoring environment and potential buyers will really feel about purchasing this car. I dont think it will bring in huge sales numbers for AMG but if it is a riot to drive then possibly enthusiasts could eventually warm to this controversial beast.

I think a lot of people were prepared to give the M3/M4 a break because underneath it was still the car that people wanted to buy, I don't think there'll be as many people prepared to forgive the AMGs looks on the same basis. People hate on the XM all the time, I personally think it looks pretty good, but I don't doubt a lot of people hold on to the dislike of the looks because they don't like what it is, and that'll be the same for the AMG because it's an EV.

Exactly. The car is ugly but an M177 EVO under its hood at 2100kg weight would change everyone’s perspective completely.

Its a strange car the XM, its the same with me, the first few times I saw it I thought it looked terrible but now when I saw it again, I kind of like it. I am looking forward to the first drive reviews on the AMG GT EV, certainly will be interesting viewing.

I’m starting to like it😂.

Just wish it was a V8…

this version without the lightbar looks so much better.
